We used to call them rolling steel doors. Easy to install. About 1 out of 10 smallish commercial door installs.

The pictures dont lie- But- I have had those type doors for over thirty years at places I have managed- This has never ever happened to one of my doors-
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

The bigger they are the worse they are. I have an 8x8 on my well house that has not been bad at all. The large ones have more surface area and more flex making them more prone to damage. On my shop the 14x14s are panel type insulated with struts, I wouldnt chance a roll up that size. The door guy that installed them said he would never even sell a roll up door.

We had a twenty foot high shop with two big drive thru bays and roll up doors. It faced south and north (drive thru), in SW Houston, behind the Westpark Common Market, under the 500 tower. Daily storms in the summer, Alicia passed directly over it. We made sure to open all four doors when it stormed. The wind blew right thru and swept up for us.
We never lost a door. Just got lucky I guess.
Cast I have a short attention spa

those are not rolling steels there sheet doors . Made of one solid sheet of metal. Rolling steels have individual slats with endlocks /and or wind locks thats keep them from doing what these doors did .

Nicky, if these doors are a bad idea, why do people buy them?

Nick, did those doors have windlocks properly installed? Ive seen 20x20 coiling steel doors on a paint booth that were bowed in about 2 on each end from negative pressure exhaust fans and clogged up intake filters and those doors stayed in their tracks. They were 18 gauge though to meet fire code so apples and oranges to your OP pics. Mainly wondering if they had correct windlock installed?
