Every time I go out with the new livescope I learn something important that I have been totally missing.

Tuesday it was finding 5 schools of suspended crappie 28' down over much deeper water and catching 40+ keepers.

Today it was finding the largest school of crappie I have ever heard of. We were fishing brushpiles in 25' and catching a
few fish when we happened to drift into 43' deep water. I started to head back shallower when I noticed a bunch of fish near
the bottom. Since the school was so large and so deep I was sure they weren't crappie, figured sandbass but the were
sitting still about 3' off the bottom. Decided to try to catch one to see what they were. Much to my surprise as soon as our jigs
got down to them, bam! two big crappie. We stayed with the school over an hour, catching one every now and then and slowly
moving along. The school was over 100' wide and we finally left them to try to find more. Found crappie at that depth in two
more spots. Forth school was small sandbass.

Didn't see many shad in the area so have no idea why they were there.

This video is just to show you how the school looked. I taped over a hour on them but didn't include all of it. I only included the
under water stuff, you probably have seen enough film of fish being reeled in.

Without livescope I would have never known any of these fish were there.

Hope to get back out soon to look for more fish off any brush or structure.

Yep as I told you I was seeing schools of fish in 50 plus feet when searching for the missing ski boat.

1042xsv the only reason I bought this unit was so I could link it to my phone to record without using a camera. the 943 is a great unit and cheaper if you don't want to make video's.

Ernest,

Did you happen to see what that school looked like on regular imaging? In other words, without the live scope would you still have found those fish?

I would never have thought to target crappie at that depth this time of year. Good job Ernest!

All you could see on regular sonar was something down there. Not something I would have paid much attention to. Now that I know to look I might find them but would not be able to see how they were moving or not to tell better what they were. If you want to try it with regular sonar zoom in on the bottom and try anything you see. Who knows, might work.

Next time out I'm going to try some m*****s (dirty word) or shad to see if they will bite better.

Ernest, if you get on them again in similar fashion, for kicks, throw a buoy out. I'd like to see what effect, if any, it would have on the school. I know you're chasing them but maybe they'd be still long enough to try. Thanks.

I would if I had a buoy with enough string on it to reach the bottom. I don't think it would matter much because the school was so large. These fish were not moving. I just kept moving to see how large the school was and to expose new fish to our jigs. What looks like fish swimming into the picture was just me moving the boat over more fish.

Well the worm turned today. Strong north wind, full moon, lake up 6" and rising, found fish but they just wouldn't bite. Lots of pecks but only 5 keepers by noon. Put up the white flag and went home.
