I started off using scupper holes because could not get the Vibe high enough for my truck due to the straps. So I took some old motorcycle straps and did it right.

Here are some before and after. What do you think?

Perfect. Is that a kit for kayaks or something you engineered?

24 bucks on amazon for the kit, but the straps were not adjustable way too long. luckily I had some old ones that worked. I think.

Looks good, but you could warp the hull like that. Vibes are not real heavy, but its still 75+ pounds sitting on two 1" straps in the Texas heat.

Out of an abundance of caution, you might want to run a couple horizontal supports under the hull or store it upside down.

If you prefer not to flip it, two pieces of 2" or 3" PVC pipe running the length of the hull would support the hull well.

It would be better if you stored it upside down, the deck of a kayak is stiffer than the hull. If that's not an option, then run pool noodles through the straps to help distribute the weight.

Pool noodles will certainly help and might be good enough for the relatively light Vibe. However, in my opinion upside down or full length horizontal supports would be better. It looks a couple 8' pieces of 2" or 2.5" PVC pipe will fit perfectly in the Vibe hull.

I've seen enough pictures of warped hulls to be very careful (borderline neurotic) about proper storage. eeks

Thank you for the advice. I actually have some 1.5 pvc at the house and it will work. I need 8 foot sections though mine were short, so off to Lowes tomorrow.

Ill post pics when done.

Out of curiosity, which kit did you purchase? How long were the supplied straps overall? I may be doing this with my kayaks as a storage solution.

Supplied straps were way to long. I didnt measure them, but my ceiling is 10 In garage and Kayak would hit my head if I walked underneath it. Im 511.
