It's been 30 years since I've owned a boat so I feel pretty green. I have been getting a few quotes for insurance for the '98 Triton TR21 I just bought. They range from the $100 progressive liability coverage to a pretty complete policy from Bob with Agreed Value, collision, comprehensive and so on. If I understand it the collision option correctly it is to cover something like a lower unit that gets smashed on a stump. My question is on my old boat are they going to fix this or only pay part because it is an older model. Since the policy offers Agreed Value on a total loss, how do we stand on a partial loss with older equipment. I like the fishing equipment coverage since the boat came with some nice graphs and a big trolling motor. What is the Navigation?
Any help is appreciated.
Steve

Steve, do your homework and get responses to your questions in writing. Ask your question(s) about blowing out your lower unit and see what written response you get.
If the answers are not concise and clear - walk away - you have many choices.
One of the huge complaints that I read on this forum is not understanding the details of the policy that they were actually sold.

"But my agent said......................"

Good luck getting a response in writing on a public forum. The smoke and mirror tactics that EVERY INSURANCE AGENT uses, doesnt work that way. The call me and Ill explain one on one response is so the answer can be biased towards the intellect, of lack there of, of the person asking the questions.

Youd have better luck getting a car dealership to show you legitimate good deal, without hidden costs and shell games....or getting the low down on Area 51!

Good luck.
