Quick trips to two ponds this past Easter Sunday - Sonic Pond and the Lower Pond at Bethany Lakes. Caught a couple of Bass using the Guadalupana and the PMOT - Purple Marabou Orange Thing. Did have a nice one on the line briefly but lost it. Overall, great time fishing on a real nice day!

I had another day where I had some time at lunch and decided to test out a fly at Stonebriar. I tested a long terrible looking streamer I tied on a 1/0 Aberdeen hook and basically elastic ponytail material. That turned into a bust. I decided for the last 15 minutes to switch to one of my black and green woolly buggers I tied on a size 6 Aberdeen hook and managed this girl. I am pretty sure it was 2.5 maybe 3lbs in some really shallow water. I guess one of the last ones to spawn. It could have been a bed, but the spot was a little too dark to tell. She took drag and ran into that drainage a few times before I could land her. Let her go safely and back to making babies she went.

Made a stop on the way home from work Monday. Rain was in the forecast but was able to catch a Bass and Bluegill or two or more before the rain arrived. Use the TFO 6wt Fly Rod; Echo Ion 6/7/ Wt Reel, and OPST Commando to cast Damsel Flies, a variant of one, and Tube Fly Poppers. The Damsel Fly Variant did well catching them... even had fun catch a nice Bluegill that bent the rod well! More Fish on the Fly... Fly Fishing at the Local Pond! #flyfishing

That time of year when kayak fishing and pond fishing conflict... sidetracked kayak fishing yesterday. Was windy but did notice fish were caught within casting distance from the bank!

First kayak fishing trip this year. Fished the local lake (Lake Lavon) on a windy day. Trolled slab and jig rigs and managed to catch a White Bass and a Yellow Bass. Kept them for a catch and cook video to show how to cook them - split them butterfly style from the back, leave the skin and scales, and marinade for a couple of hours, then pan fry till crispy. Also, did a quick demo of why we like the Zebco Rod/Reel combo we use as a backup rod when kayak fishing... it floats!

Got out of my comfort zone and explored some new bodies of water with my flyrod last Sunday. Went to Llano for the first time . The water there is really high. I should have brought my waders. I skunked out at Llano. Anybody got any advice for that place? There were a lot of folks fishing there. There was one guy with his family there and he was catching huge drum on live crawfish. He was using a heavy rig and tossing to the edge of the current line.

Stopped at Stonebriar on the way home to keep it from being a completely skunk day I pulled a little 1 pounder largemouth on my flyrod on a black and green woolly bugger.

Went kayak fishing yesterday on the local lake. Caught five Catfish using Shad on Juglines. Filleted them and cooked them blackened fish style. Tasty meal but still got a ways to go before the video is done; will get it posted soon as we can....

For now, did a quick trip with the Telescoping Micro Fly Rod trying to catch a small fish on a size 32 fly. Bluegill took it, switched to a size 18 Griffiths Gnat and caught a Sunfish. Fun times, especially with a rod that fits conveniently in a pocket. Do stay tuned for more on yesterday's kayak fishing video!

Still working on learning how to us a bass jig. I had a little bit of time on Monday at lunch and headed to Stonebriar for a few. I call this one a cheat. I saw her on her bed and dropped the jig in there. I guess it counts as a catch, but I am determined to catch one properly on a jig. I am guessing around 2 lbs and a little under 18 inches. Let her go and she went right back to her bed.

Nice!

Getting sidetracked with kayak fishing on Lavon....Went kayak fishing for catfish using jug lines and shad for bait. Fishing partner along with our newest member of the Field Team - Charlie the Maltese Puppy had a great time, despite said puppy having a dunking this round. No worries... life jacket did well plus we caught five Catfish that made for a tasty dinner. Will plan a catch and cook video to show how we cooked them! jig with a craw is just about all I use. every now and then I'll tie a senko or frog. but the jigs seem to catch the larger fish in the ponds I normally fish.

fished for about an hour this morning at crowley park. caught 3. all 3 were about 2.5 lbs.
