I have a couple of questions. I'd like to get some opinions and ideas.

1. I usually have several multi treble baits tied on: cranks, traps, topwater, etc. At the end of the day, I'll place the bottom treble on the reel, wind it up and wrap the line around the rod. I would like to know what you guys are using to keep those treble hooks from tangling with the other rods and anything else that gets near them. Do the reel wraps work without getting the treble hooks embedded into them? Any clever ideas that is cheaper than buying a bunch of reel covers?

2. I have the rod organizer system in my port side rod storage box. I'm thinking about removing it and leaving the box open so it's easier to put the rods in. Pros/cons to this idea? To me, it seems like it would be much quicker to put them in the rod box and let the rods ride on each other instead of taking the time to carefully insert each tip into the little rod organizer with the tubes. I also seem to catch the eyes as I'm inserting them which probably bends and weakens them a bit.

I've always let my rods ride on the deck of the boat strapped down, but I've learned that water and dirt from wet roads gets inside the reels. So, now, I'm going to start using my rod box like it's intended. smile

clear lure wraps

no rod tubes removed them

If you can sew you can make your own reel wraps.

I use treble protector caps sometimes, and other times I’ll use a lure wrap. Both work.

Every treble tied on gets one of these before going in the rod box - https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Stick_Jacket_Plug_Jackets_/descpage-SJPJ.html

Remove the rod tubes, They are a hassle and you can get twice as many rods in the locker with that thing out. The only negative about taking the tubes out is that your spinning reels wont sit as well and the spinning line will inevitably catch on other reel handles or open hooks.

I also put a reel cover on every reel in the rod box (except spinning), but mostly because I buy and sell equipment constantly and want to stay looking good for resale value. I like the tackle warehouse reel covers put they currently dont have the bait casting covers available on their site for some reason.

Thanks for all the replies. This helps me out. I like the insulation idea and also thought about some pool noodles I have laying around. I'm gonna give that a try. Also going to remove my rod organizer and go that route.

Aluminum foil. I've done this for years and it works. Just tear off a piece, double it over and wrap around the lure with trebles. Works for me anyway.

Always take the tubes out. Much more space and easier to take them in/out. As far as treble hooks, I just deal with it. They'll get stuck in the carpet in the rod box and hung into the rod socks but I just try to put my cranking rods in last so they have less likelihood of hanging up anything else in the box.

For lure wraps I use the Cal Coast Bait Sack. Absolutely love them. Saw one of the Shryock brothers users that spongy shelf liner stuff between around his reels. Picked up a roll fairly cheap and use them on long road trips, but I also use reel covers.

Aluminum foil and shelf liner are interesting ideas. That Cal Coast Bait Sack is very slick. If these other few ideas don't work out the way I envision, I'm gonna pick a few of those up. Thanks for the ideas.
