How is the population of these fish now. Years ago we would fish for them after a morning of largemouth fishing. Was thinking about trying it out there or Bridgeport. Maybe Lewisville

I think they quit stocking hybrids many years ago.

they are not there anymore since the power plant began to run long ago as the average water temp is now too hot for them and the walleyes. but the tilapia are doing well

I doubt it. They are real strict about weapons coming in to the lake. You can use a cast net. Look on the website where you make reservations. it will have more information.

Long gone from Squaw, just like The smallmouth.
For Hybrids I would recommend Tawakoni, Richland Chambers or Lewisville.

I have seen people bowfish for tilapia at Squaw numerous times.

Squaw does not have it's own special law. You can fish it just like you would any other lake in Texas. Use a bow or a pole just like anywhere else.

Squaw Creek is a private facility and does have a few requirements you might wish to know before you go

Bow fishing was closed at Squaw Creek Reservoir for years and was only opened a few years back to try and control the tilapia. The first tilapia showed up in 2010 and now they are all over the lake. They are mainly blue tilapia and the average adult size for blue tilapia is 4 to 6 pounds. Most of the fish in Squaw are still under 3 pounds. There are so many beds in the lake you can see them on Google Map. Other fish commonly caught include largemouth bass, freshwater drum, catfish, sunfish, and carp. There are no hybrids in the lake. There are lots of rules including not being able to go in the water, even to get your cast net if it gets hung up. Fishing from the bank is limited to a small section of the lake.
