150-200 a day per boat is very doable there. Even some of the other guys in camp that had been several times said it was a little slow. It was our first time to Picachos and we had a great time. RSJ runs a 1st class fishing camp!

Just got back from Picachos and El Salto. I can't talk about RSJ's service. I was dealing with Billy Chapman's Angler's Inn and so my comments about facilities and service apply to them.

Here's the daily reports...

Sunday 5/5, arrived at Mazatlan at 4:30pm and picked up at the airport by Roberto who spoke pretty good English and we immediately drove to Pichacos, met the staff and with suggestions as to lures and line weights we set up for the morning and I had a beautiful steak for dinner.

Monday 5/6 at Picachos, my guide Jesus spoke almost no English butI spoke Spanish enough that we communicated real well. Put in at 6am , fished til 11.Whopper Ploppers early morning, then Yum Dingers all day. Lunch whenever I wanted it, and after a siesta, fished 2-7pm. All bass between 1.5 and 4.5lbs, personally boated 69 with many breakoffs. Jesus fished some, but only to find a different bite. Way strong fighters, a 2 pounder fights like a 4,
Tuesday 5/7, again Whopper Plopper morning bite, soft plastics T-rigged rest of day. Fish were crazy biting, personally got 110 in the boat. Guide knew where the fish were. Best action when we tied off to a tree and fish the tree stickups with YDingers.
Wednesday 5/8, fished dawn til noon, about 50 fish including a 6.5 off a shaded bluff on a Dinger.

Then we drove to El Salto that afternoon.

2pm until 7, fished with Juan. He knows his stuff and speaks English pretty well, enough to tell jokes back and forth and explain the lake well. Boated about 35-40 on mostly Strike King 1/2oz Hack Attack chartreuse spinnerbaits, T-rigged Yum Dingers, shakey head Yumdingers. Areas fished were bluff walls and flats swarming with Tilapia fry. Also boated a couple on SK 6XDs, which wore me out, but did yield a 7.4 late afternoon.
Thursday 5/9, again Whopper Ploppers at dawn. Then a variety of baits: 1/2oz spinners, 1/2oz chatterbaits with Keitech trailer, Yum dinger T-rigged and Shakey head. Fished flats, stump fields and bluffs. Boated 74, with an 8.4 kicker.
Friday 5/10. Frankly, my arms, shoulders, and elbows were so worn out after fishing 10 hours a day for 4 days, I could barely toss a bait a 15 yards. He offered to cast for me, but I declined and at 11am I told Juan "Estoy terminado. Vamonos ala casa." He laughed and we headed back to the dock. Really good guide, Juan knows his stuff and speaks excellent English.

The food, service, attention to the needs of the clients and care of the property is second to none. I was totally impressed. Picachos facilites are great but smaller than El Salto, which I consider luxurious for a fishing camp. The staff at both places made me feel like a friend. I could tell stories about extra service so far above the call of duty for me that I was mind-blown. They have their stuff together at both places, seriously. Meet you at the airport, drive you to the lake, and even before I was out of the van, I had a margarita and nachos in my hand. When I stepped out the van, my bags and tackle were already in the room.

Only frustrations was I had practically no cell phone access at either lake, though for some reason low data text messages got through. On second thought, no cell phone service was a blessing most hours of the day.

I'm definitely coming back later this year.

Those nachos at Angler's Inn El Salto are really good. White beans instead of the traditional Tex-Mex refried beans.
Angler's Inn at El Salto is crazy good.

we are giving RSJA a chance at Picachos ---head out this weekend to meet my son in LA and then go to Mazatln on Monday for 4 days of fishing at Picachos.
sounds like I could take some flukes out of my bag ---- but hey, you never know and one bag full or one bag 1/2 full I guess that really doesn't matter.

Thanks for the report ---

Our group is trying to get there, delayed in Mexico City for a few hours.
Traveling there sucks since airlines stopped non stop flights into Mazatln

Don't worry about flukes. I'm pretty sure the Picachos bass aren't finicky in the least and will hit anything. I didn't mention belly-weighted Keitechs, but I caught a bunch on 4.8 Fat Swing Impacts. Color didn't matter.
