Ok I clean loads of catfish but I wanted to check out how the Asian stores clean catfish. So I pick out a nice live one and the meat market guy caught it to clean.now he had a method of putting the fish out of misery. He took a small bat and clubbed the fish in the head. I did not know you could actually kill a catfish quickly but it worked. So he skinned it and I had it cut into four pieces which I microwaved for lunch. I think I may get a bat because a dead fish finds you less often than a live one. So a baseball bat might be on the shopping list.

Yep this method is used a lot offshore on lots of different types of fish. You can buy one cheaper but here's one option.

My grandfather used to do this when I was younger. I thought it was common practice. Just goes to show ya I suppose.

Home Depot or Lowe's has oak handles for axes and hammer handles that you can pick up cheap and make your own.
Drill a hole and use a piece of paracord and it floats.

Just one more cast!

I always use a claw hammer, striking with the head turned sideways - very effective.

9.99 cheap

I have something like this. Fastest way to calm a catfish. My neighbor used to think it was barbaric.
but I always tell him ," If you ever decide to fillet me , hit me in the head first "
