Anyone do any good on Lake Georgetown? I know this lake isn't known for its crappie fishing but i also know they are there. Its easy to find them at night using lights but I've always had trouble during the day. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I fished that lake a bunch before I was transferred to Temple in 91. I often fished with a popular guide, Red Moehring. The only quantities of crappie we caught, were as you stated...at night in the wooded river channel. I always thought the lake would hold some bigger fish also, but we never found them. Good luck.

Thanks for your input. Ive tossed brush along the river channel and upriver that has work on other lakes but Georgetown continues to live up to its reputation.

Exactly! It reminds me of Stillhouse. But a beautiful little lake!

I have caught many crappie on lake GeorgeTown over the years but they are usually small and skinny. I stopped crappie fishing there a little over a year ago since it was kind of a waste of time. They hold on brush in the daytime. Many other lakes in the area that are much better! LBJ, Granger, Austin and even marble falls.

I fish Granger quite a bit, great crappie lake. I live just a few minutes from lake Georgetown is the main reason id like to get more comfortable with it.

Have you ever caught any big crappie? I know the record is less than 2# but I know I only caught a bunch of smaller fish. A good one was 12 or 13 inches.

Ive caught a bunch of 12 at the cliffs at night. I think the cliffs are overfished. I used to catch 40 or so keepers per night (only keeping 10 or 15) but its gotten much tougher. Those bigger fish are about as nocturnal as a big buck on Georgetown.

Well.....I don't know about now....but there was a good smallmouth population. I'm sure there is a ton of traffic on that lake now! That's why most of my friends came up here to fish!

I have very little luck. The Zebra population actually makes the lake crystal clear by filtering out small plankton that support shad populations. This allows light to penetrate deeper thus driving the fish deeper. You can catch a few small sand bass, but with the jet skies and pleasure boaters its not worth it.
