So last weekend I decide to take new Garmin FF out and get some good pics. I need some crappie for freezer so I decide no chances get live bait.
Go to fork and fish some familiar places. I put anchor in because I think maybe look for fish on timber outside of creeks. Haven't used anchor in 3 years. Get to 2nd spot and say "good spot to anchor up."
Throw anchor in, let yak drift back over brush and start grabbing anchor line to stop. About 10 seconds in getting bad feeling cause no resistance. Yep, didn't tie line to anchor.
Ok not a good start but can recover. Tie off to some timber sticking up and put some minnows out. Decide I need to put rod holder different angle to get close to timber. No bites so after awhile I pull up stakes and prepare to go new spot. Pull in tie off line and rod holder (that I didn't make sure was down in base correctly) falls overboard.
Head hung in shame I call it a day.
If you hang up on stuff it's probably mine. DOH!

One of the worst sounds a kayaker hears is , "PLOOP!" You then start looking around and taking inventory!
Just one more cast!

This is a reminder for me to make a float for my phone. The design is in my head, it needs to make it into reality...

Happens to all fellow kayakers more than you can imagine. I am sure each person on here can give some kinds of story. I too have lost 2 anchors the same way you just explained.
There is a reason someone made rod leashes, rod floats, etc. All from similar experience.
Live and learn.

Dang! I hope that rod and reel isn't too expensive to replace... I got into the habit of just bringing one rod and reel for crappie fishing and just leave it in front me most of the time. Didn't really like leashes or floats when freshwater fishing.

Its in my destiny. I hate leashes and floats. Always worth the gamble fresh or salt.
