No you don't NEED it but when did that ever stop us from buying what we WANT. I bought my Ultrex about a year and a half ago and was probably the best thing I ever bought that was fishing related. It's made fishing a lot easier and spot lock is a true game changer.

Will never own a trolling motor without spot lock.

Have the cheaper terrova and worth every penny.

For a 21 ft. boat I would get the 36 x 112 x 52 " shaft. 24 x 80 wouldn't be enough in rough water for that size boat.

112 LB, 36V. It works great. I have a 20' boat. The wind blows all the time where I fish. Best money I ever spent.

Not sure if the 112 will work on 24 but check it out. Call David over at Shut Up and Fish 972-822-9285, he'll have all the answers for you.

I'm running an 80# X5i on a 22.5' bay boat and it will hold all day in wind and rough water.

I had a 70lb 24v Power Drive V2 on my 22' bay boat and it worked OK in wind and rough water, actually a 10 MPH wind was when it was at its best. I have a 36v Terrova on that boat and it works great, and I gained 2 MPH with it. The 70 lb was a gen 1 MK, and the spot lock was a 12' circle. The Terrova I have on it now has a 2' circle max on spot lock. I had the Motorguide in the mix as well. The things I didn't like about it was the remote for the most part, it had no screen to show functions. The other thing I have found about Motorguides that I have owned is that they do not produce as much power as a Minn Kota when all things are equal, it is noticeable.

GPS trolling motors should be called ATFP. Answer to fishermans prayer.

After I had it a few weeks I said to myself, I only paid $1200 for this TM ??

Thanks guys for all of the advice. Gotta love the TFF. Sounds like I'm in the market. Probably be calling "Shut up and Fish" tomorrow.
