Hey guys, I've been hard at work over the last year reformatting reef recon so it will work on Garmin (first file worked only on Lowrance and Simrad).

What is it? you can see that here. Basically I figured out a way side scan all the reefs in the bay and put them on an overlay above your base cartography map. Let's be honest, while I know mapping companies are working on updating their mapping, the reefs move faster than that and there are many places all the basemaps are, well, dangerous, especially in west and chocolate and even in Christmas.

For anyone that lives and fishes West Bay, Jones, Chocolate, Christmas, it's invaluable and guys have already seen great results fishing reefs that they didn't know were there. For those that are ready to fish the Deep Reefs for trout... trout should be starting to show up on them now and later this month. Good way to catch some quality redfish as well in Galveston and East Galveston. There's lots of boats on the PVC marked leases, this will give you options without having to be in the 50 boat jam up.

Lowrance and Simrad Map has individual polygons that draws a line around each reef.. you actually have the boundary of the reef GPS located from the most recent side scan of the bay. The Garmin map is essentially the same but with a connecting line between each reef (this is caused by the Garmin Firmware and how Garmin's work- all the same reef data and you can literally follow the lines to the next reef).

I got mine installed and i am beside myself with the value and work that had to have gone into this. Very impressive!

For sure keeps me in more productive areas longer and gives me more spots to hit and try. Really a great mapping tool. Keep it up!

about to have the Raymarine file loaded.. The Garmin file is up though. I'll update when the Raymarine file is up.

Hummingbird has been a no go. They use a different technology and we haven't figured it out yet. Yes, we can import the waypoints but not the reef outlines that we have in the other units. We'll continue to work on it but no promises. I wish we could deliver it, but we haven't' gotten there yet.

Tobin:
I can't wait for you to do rockport, PortA Reef Recon. I'll be the first to buy a chip.

This came in today from a customer that purchased it this summer. He thought he was having issues with accuracy and I let him know that the base maps on most of the units havne't been updated in a long time except in areas of high boat traffic. So he then made another trip out and here's what he said.

From Chris (last name omitted for privacy)
"Got back out there this weekend. You were absolutely correct. The nav points that came with my simrad were off but your reefs were accurate. (Before) I didn’t know what to look for when I was on them either; (now) Once i got over the reef I saw the bottom change."

Should be one of the best Fall and Winters we've had for fishing West Bay with it's many reefs. There's been some flounder caught tight to the reeds in West and also in Bastrop Bay.. All those areas are covered in Reef Recon.

email me tobin@troutsupport.com if you have any questions about fishing... and want more detailed answers.
