Lewisville is hot right now on certain areas on brushpiles. Sat afternoon Rick and I caught 36 off brushpiles in 20'-25' deep water. We also caught a bunch suspended at 18' in 35' deep water. The ones on the brush were not eager to bite but would if you kept messing with them. The suspended ones blasted any jig the came near them. Only problem was keeping up with the school.

Sunday my wife and I caught 46 on brushpiles. Same way as the day before except we didn't find any suspended fish.

Without Livescope we probably not have caught much. The brushpiles that held fish were in the main lake, not in coves or around 121 area.

In or near deep water. 20' deep or more for the most part. Below are some shots of brushpiles and what to look for. The crappie were sitting still. If the fish on the pile were darting around or swimming fast they were small sandies or shad.








Most of the fish here are shad.



If the fish are not showing like this, most of the time it's a waste of time to fish. Bare piles are pretty but not very productive. Another plus for Livescope. Normally I lose several jigs per trip. With being able to see my jig and the brush I can stop my jig right at the top of the pile and let the fish come up to it. I have used the same jig for three trips without a hangup. I figure I can pay for the livescope in saved jigs in about three thousand years.

On the brush piles with one or two fish, you can bet they will be the bigger fish.

Sometime they will be down in the pile but you should still be able to see them. In my experience they will usually come up to a bait right over the top of the brush. May not bite it but will come up and look it over.

Another thing I have learned with livescope. I have been putting a 1/8 oz split shot on my line about 6" above my jig for the additional weight. I have noticed a lot of missed strikes were fish hitting the split shot. I will now put a second jig there. Not too much chance of hanging the extra jig if I can see the brush. Now if they want to hit the extra jig, YEA!
Also when a crappie is hooked often another fish or two will follow it up and try to take the jig away. Maybe they will hit the extra jig. Again YEA!
