The drag pressure is where the difference is ..... reels rated for small line usually have low max drag.

I agree also. I never use over 20 lbs test. I might use a larger leader. But i make sure my drag is set. Even on a much bigger fish. If the drag is set correctly. They will rarely spool you. Just my 2 cents

All of my reels were never spooled with anything over 20# test, and most of the time I fish with 14# test. Going over the poundage limit of the reel usually means poorer performance from your reel.
Just one more cast!

You lose line capacity and casting distance. You also risk bending the spool shaft and most likely the reel frame at some point. Get a scale and put a lot of drag on your reel and pull it to about 8 pounds .... you will think you are going to break the rod. 8 pounds of drag is a lot! On my large offshore gear i use 30# mono with about 8 pounds of drag and whoop sharks up to about 8ft long very regularly. 150 pounders plus.... i use a 6ft leader of 400# mono. 20# will do a lot.
Now if you need abrasion resistance i would use correct size line with a leader. Replace leader as needed. I have a lot of light offshore gear spooled with 25# and use a short 60# leader.
