They're out there. I caught a huge one in Trinity Bay and one about the size in the picture in Shoalwater Bay.

I caught one right at Redfish Point many years ago.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Sheesh. They eat tons of good stuff. If you only knew. frown

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

They're all over. Especially in the back lakes/marshes round Rockport/Aransas

Yeah, only thousands of specks and reds though.

You should have seen the huge schools of3-6 lb bass on Rayburn in the 70s when commercial fishermen netted for buffalo to sell to Mexico. The nets killed a lot of the big gator gar and the fishing was amazing until BASS groups feared a few big bass would get caught and raised hell stopping the practice.

Bass fishing on Rayburn hasn't been great since. Big gar eat big bass like kids eating Lays potato chips.
I used to find big areas of big bass and stay on them a couple of weeks in the summer. Now if you find a dig school they move on in a day or to running from the big schools of gar.
