What options are there seat-wise for fishing on front deck? I use abut seat some a Bill Dance seat too. Other options that work well? Thanks

First make sure you keep hydrated, second watch your posture, third have you tried a back brace. I also use abut seat and alternate from leaning and sitting. The best thing I ever did for my lower back was put in a trolling motor foot control box and get it almost level with the deck.

getting rid of the foot control and using a wireless remote and/or control from depth finder helps me the most

Get some good shoes or inserts. Youd be surprised with how much it effects your lower back. Makes a huge difference standing all day.

For me, I got the ulterra for the auto deploy. You'd be amazed how much manually deploying the trolling motor wears on your back as you get older. I stand when fishing so no seat recommendations other than I take more breaks and sit on the deck or behind the wheel throughout the day. I also got a massage chair at home and that has made a world of difference on my back just using it when sore. Recovery went from a few days to 15 minutes.

As much as I love my X5i I see an Ulterra in my future. Spinal fusion can take its toll on the lake all day.

I had back, knee and ankle problems. I went from bass boat to a bay boat with sit down seat, and Ulterra trolling motor. It is amazing difference being able to walk around boat and control trolling motor from anywhere in the boat.

I've got an inversion table (hang upside down). Stretches everything out and helps.

stretching , inversion table and acupuncture .
I suffered breaking the same vertebrae in my lower back twice in youth sports . Suffered back problems for over 40 + years .
Recently had insane lower back pain (sciatica ) , pirfomis syndrome and no feeling in my lower left foot . After 1 , 90 minute acupuncture visit --- 95% of the pain was gone and all the feeling came back to my foot . After the second 90 minute visit ---- my back and leg felt totally normal and pain free . My acupuncturist is 3rd generation . She practices a very aggressive type of acupuncture --- and it does involve some pain when/if she hits a nerve --- but it works .
It's not for everybody , but it beats getting hooked on pain killers .

I would avoid surgery like the plague. I've heard many horror stories from the people who had surgery done on their spine.

I had a spinal fusion in 1981 L4/L5 and have fished tournaments and have rode my motorcycle cross country several times. A GOOD surgeon can do wonders for a wrecked back. The keys to staying active for me have been to keep the weight off, exercise which doesnt mean killer workouts, and find the BEST chiropractor in your area. If you are in Tarrant county there is none better than Dr. Derek Brown in Hurst. Have been seeing him for 25 years off and on. If he cant help he will find you a good surgeon who can. All of this has worked great for me. 68 years young and going strong.
