I currently have 2 Gen 3 12's networked on my boat, with an LSS-2 structure transducer. I am looking to add a 3rd unit. I am interested in the HDS Live with 3 in 1 Active imaging. I know that it will not plug directly into a gen 3 unit, but are the gen 3 units capable of displaying that image from the Live unit via the network? If I were to remove my LSS-2, and replace with the Active Imaging 3 in 1, would all my units be capable of displaying sidescan, downscan, traditional sonar, and mapping by using the Live unit as the source? Thank you in advance for any help.

The Gen-3 is not compatible with the Active Imaging transducer, however your LIVE unit with the Active Imaging ducer will provide an awesome structure scan image on the LIVE. Only the CARBON, ELITE Ti2 & LIVE worked with Active Imaging transducer.

Ive been curious about this myself. So Rob, if the 3 in 1 is connected to the Live unit, and on a networked Gen3 unit I select the StructureScan source to be the Live unit, will I not get any Side/Down image on the Gen 3?

They will not see the Active Imaging benefit on the Gen 3, they may see regular structure scan at best.

so I have a follow-up question Rob. If I get the LIVE unit, and network it in via ethernet cable, can I then mark a waypoint on the structure scan on the LIVE unit( or on the CHIRP sonar) and have it appear on the mapping of the gen 3 units? Thank You.

You should be able to mark a w-pt on one of your Gen-3 units or your LIVE unit and have it show up on all units connected. Keep in mind there have been cases usually with older units (Gen-1&2) where they dummied down the newer technology when connected to each other.
