Yegua Creek Park and Rocky Creek Park are usually closed to bank fishermen on the weekend. You might try Welch park. You can drive down to the waters edge.

Hey Guys, brand new here. I was looking at taking my dad (disabled) and 2 boys to Somerville this weekend, was told to go out to Yegua off the main lake, since it is accessible for my dad. Any tips for bank fishing that area? going to to try to catch some fresh shad if I can, for the boys and dad, maybe use some jigs myself. Thanks! I would look at taking them to the overlook marina/docks

What lures are favorable lures for whites on the lake?
I've had good luck at Newman's the past couple years and I have a kayak. I'm interested in going after some whites after they're back in the main lake.

Ben- I have had success with silver rattletraps and roostertails. Also sometimes use sexy shad crankbaits. Look for them breaking the surface, or the birds working. You will learn spots they hang out in by observing the boats trolling certain areas, or do some trolling yourself if you have rod holders in your kayak.
BB- On the dam side, they will school up, chasing shad, whether the gates are closed or not. You will generally have to chase them with boat or kayak, as they don't stay near the bank for long. Early morning and late evening are the best times for this. Don't know about the spillway side as I don't fish that area.

Thanks and I have used small Rat-L-Traps in the past but I haven't fished the main lake for whitebass much. Do jigs with grubs also work on the main lake?

I'm sure they would, once located. When they are schooling, you could throw a cigarette butt and they would hit it. However, there is too much open water to cover throwing a jig, for me anyway. One thing I've learned on here is the term 'match the hatch'. If they are feeding on shad, throw something that mimics shad. Start with that, locate them, then you can branch out and see what else works for you. Best thing you can do is get out there and do something, and observe what is working for those who are having success. Good luck out there. I'm going to try and get out there tomorrow morning and give it a whirl.

Has anyone had luck at Somerville in the last few days? I have a buddy that doesn't fish much, who will be over that way this weekend with his kids at a baseball tournament, and he is looking to put the boys on a bite in the morning, Saturday. I am hoping for any recent info from the area. They will be bank fishing.

I didn't have much luck on sunday. I got there way too late at 7:30 am. Be on the bank before sunrise as the action will be over rather quickly. Be prepared ahead of time, as you wont have time to get rigged up.

White bass at welch. Get there before dawn for bank fishing. Throw anything shiny. They should be busting the surface chasing the shad up against the bank. By 7am, it is about over as the shad move into deeper water. You then have to chase them with either boat or kayak. I had trouble locating them on Sunday as they were either not on the usual humps, or just not biting. I ended up catching only 5 in one spot off rattletrap and mepps.

Look for this lake to rise my friend, there is a lot of water pouring into it as we speak. Yegua creek may have reached an all time record high today of 16 feet above flood stage. It was at 15 something yesterday.
