Didnt want to have to make one of these posts, but Ive been in the market for a boat for a little bit over a month and have just had trouble finding the right first boat. I fish for Stephen F. Austin and trying to find a boat that can handle Rayburn and simply that can just get me on the water as much as possible. My budget is around 15k but could come up to about 18 or 19 if needed. If anyone has any way they could contribute to the boat search it would be hugely appreciated!!

For $15K, you should be able to find a good used bass boat in the 18-19 foot range. If you are going to fish big water, like Big Sam, then the longer the boat, the better it will handle rough water. Unfortunately, you are looking at the wrong time. I would keep my eyes open, but the best deals are often found in the winter.

Once you find one you are interested in, either have it inspected thoroughly, or learn how to do it yourself!

Lastly - the owner of record for the boat and motor must present signed and dated titles and transfer documents at the time of the sale. If he/she does not for ANY reason, walk away (period). Again, no title for boat and motor, no sale. Trailers are handled by the DMV.

Call Trace Greer at Mallard Marine in Nacogdoches. 972-837-9404. He used to fish for DBU before he graduated & WILL help you immensely. You should be able to get a nice, competitive rig in th at price range.
Oops, just caught this was a post at end of April, but, if you need a boat still OR need rigging, parts, equipment etc. he's STILL a good resource. He's authorized MinnKota/Humminbird MotorGuide/Lowrance dealer also.

Look for an early 2000s basscat Pantera Classic with a 200 Merc not opti . Find a clean one have it checked by a good motor guy and a good glass guy to make sure the hull hasnt been wrecked and poorly repaired.

For value , handling, and overall fishing performance thats a hard boat to beat.
