Myself and Rick aka Catyakker fished a hill country water body Thursday and Friday and caught a lot of very "BIG" sunfish. Redear,Bluegill,Hybrids, and Large Mouth Bass were all caught. We caught more than 50 fish each day. Fish were preparing for spawn. Fish were caught in 8 to 10 feet of water holding by drop offs to shallower water. Fish were also caught in 3 to 5 feet of water holding close to reed beds. Worms under a float got great results. The bite was non stop each day between 9am and 12:30pm. After 12:30pm the bite slowed down but we were still catching a lot of fish. After 2:30pm the bite completely shut down. All of the Redear were in the 8 to 10 inch range with most in the 9 inch range. The Bluegill were in 7 to 9 inch range and the Hybrids were all in the 9 inch range. The bass were all in the 2 to 4 pound range. All of the fish were fat with nice girths and easily weighed over half a pound. Fish were released to fight again. Catching a bunch of very nice fish with the Catyakker. It just don't get any better! fish

Great fish thumb

The ponds and small lakes are fishing well. I thought we might have a good spawn on the April 19th full moon but it didn't happen. The May 18th full moon is bound to be a good one. I sure hope the fish move shallow on the big lakes and rivers.

Thanks Jamie for the reply! cheers I think you are right about the spawn beginning in the middle of May. Maybe sooner! hmmm A lot of BIG FISH are on the move now! hooked

Side Note: Seems that the creeks, small rivers, and ponds are more active than the larger water bodies. noidea

What a week. Thanks to Banker, I never caught so many 8-10 inch slabs on single outings as we experienced this past week. OMG But where oh where are those elusive 10 inch Bluegills. Seems as though most of the 8-10 inch Slabs we caught were either Red Ears or Hybrids hmmm But like the pro whom I fish with, keeps telling me "keep on fishing and they will come". dance2
