Family is headed down to stay in crystal beach area in July. We have stayed in Galveston state park before, we have a small two man boat that we used that in the bay side with a trolling motor. That trip we caught a lot of smaller reds and some decent speckled trout. So my question is outside of surf/wade fishing the gulf side does anyone have any tips in and around the crystal beach area that would be both productive and safer to fish from the boat? We are not after personal best or anything, just love to fish and would like to catch some speckled trout for a fish fry. Any help would be appreciated.

East bay is pretty darn shallow. You could troll to the many reefs in east bay or to bird island and get into them good. Or stay in intercoastal and fish the mouths of the marsh. The gulf side is hit or miss that time of year for specks.
