Just read news blurb about parents being charged with murder in death of 5yo A.J. Freund.
Question: Blurb says parents charged with five (5) counts of first degree murder each. How can it be FIVE counts when there's only been ONE murder?
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Maybe it was a poorly written story. Perhaps Five different charges with 1st Degree Murder being the top count charge of each.
And, different States have different laws so different charges.

I don't know Illinois law, but it probably has to do with special circumstances and each different one being called a "count".
possible example: 1. murder 2. murder of family member 3. murder of person under a certain age 4. murder of a dependent 5. conspiracy etc.
