Interesting. I did not find his calculations which included recycling the metals used in the batteries.
Lithium can be recovered at a rate of 80%. As the technology evolves they can probably be expected to recycle more than 90%. That would change his calculations over time.

Another thing to consider is they were comparing electric to Mercedes diesel cars. Diesels emit more particulate emissions and more Nitrous Oxide but lower CO2 than gas engines so they took a diesel which is a smaller segment of the transportation energy emissions. I would like to see their calculations as it pertains to gasoline.
I looked at a 2013 VW Golf diesel and it emitted 298 grams of CO2 per mile. That is without adding in the CO2 produced by the mining and transportation of the fuel it uses and I don't know what that would add. The study claimed 116 to 156 grams per mile of CO2 with an electric. 249 to 289 grams per mile by adding the CO2 cost of producing the energy in the electric.

So even with adding 0 production CO2 from producing gasoline or diesel the electric is on par with the diesel or gas engine.

My conclusion? This study may have been done for the purpose of furthering methane fuel which was mentioned at the end.

They also forgot to tell everyone about the length of the electrical cord needed for driving around town .

I really like the diesel generator that the electric car charging station is hooked up to. Until we have 100% zero emission electricity and clean mining for the lithium all they are doing is moving the source of pollution around to a different place.

Again.....get rid of all EV's until such time as they can be serviced by zero carbon sources.

Also, get rid of all solar panels and all windmills.

This study is from Europe, and I'm sure the reason it was done with diesel is because in the past several years there have been a lot of Euro govt programs pushing diesel over gasoline. All kinds of tax incentives, toll reductions and similar incentives pushing diesel, and making the gas/diesel decision for consumers lean more and more in the direction of diesel.

A few years ago it was announced there would be a daily toll for vehicles to enter certain parts of London, and it was made clear diesel vehicles would get a break. A lot of Brits bought diesels as their next vehicle because of this and similar anticipated programs. Then when the toll was implemented, only diesels made within the last 3 years were eligible for the break. Typical government program, and a bunch of mad voters.

I didn't read it, but I bet a dollar to a doughnut they didn't take into consideration tires. One of those heavy arse Teslas may make 12k on a set of tires really expensive tires to boot........................they are heavy, hard on roads. I have a friend that has one and he told me about the tires.

Thanks, Billy
