My kids a catcher in 7u baseball. I know I’m proud but I’ve realized he’s way ahead of other kids playing that position. I can tell the training has helped him a lot. We just won a 8u championship. He caught pop ups every game and outs behind the plate , most impressive is he was over thrown 2 times both times he turned around for the ball and back to plate in time to get the out. He has a lot of presence in the game. A lot of the kids hear the ding and just wonder what happened to the ball. This is our second championship showing this year. Took second first time. Been in 3 tournaments. So far. We are getting better each game. I’m wondering what guys are using to put the usssa rings in? I think we will end up with a couple more before end of spring.

Thanks. I try to spend as much time as I can with him. Our tourney started at 9 but had to be there for warm ups at 8 and was 2.5 hours away and the win ended 9:54 pm. Then Drive home. Enjoyed every minute. He played 7 games behind the plate. Never one complaint, never wanted to quit or go home. I had a pep talk with him before championship game told him this is were you become the champion or the looser it’s time for focus and attitude. He sat watched game never talked to other kids and caught 2 pop ups , hit a infield homer. Kids competitive. Works his butt off. Wants to pratice everyday and after 2-3 hours I have to make him leave

I like reading post like this. I used coach years ago. I had a 14 year old playing catcher. He was 3 years ahead as far as talent. The kid was gifted. I talked to his dad after the season. I explained that if he kept playing catcher and kept progressing he would be a legitimate 1st round pick out of high school. I told them to stay away from football. I basically layed out a blueprint on what to expect. Over the next 2 years the kid excelled. Then his junior year thr high school football coach convinced him and his father that he should play. 3 months later, major knee injurie and he could not squat down to catch. He was never able to play remotely close to how he did.
Good catchers are few and far between. If a kid can handle the defensive skills at catcher. He doesn't have to be a great hitter. A good defensive catcher with and average bat can have z great career. Keep up the good work. He just might have that potential to play in the majors

Thanks for the encouragement. I wish I had used a go pro the entire day and got all the high lights. He blocks perfectly. Gets in primary and secondary. I let him keep his butt down since there was so many games In One day. He’s right behind the plate not 7 feet behind it cause he’s scared. It’s a cool thing to have everyone come up and complement you on how good he is. But when the opposing coach says man wish we had that catcher we’d win more you feel accomplished. It’s a shame that they aren’t allowed to hunt he’d get way more outs lol we been praticing that for awhile. We are currently working on throwing to second for the stealers. If we get that down perfectly before 9 he will stop lots of runs.

They sell custom made ring holders at many of the tournaments. You can also find ring displays on eBay.

If he is having fun playing the game it will show. It does look and sound like he is having fun. If there ever comes a time when it is no longer fun and you have to pressure him to go to practice or games, that's when a decision needs to be made. Until then, go have fun watching him and give him ever opportunity to improve. Play up or tougher teams so you challenge him to improve. Cream rises to the top. Congratulations on a great start.

That’s the most fun part of little league baseball. Enjoy it. Congrats to your boy.

Enjoy for now. Later on the politics kick in and it’s not as fun.

Stay away from RangerKev's advice. Scouts and colleges are stearing away from the "baseball only" kids nowadays. Those are usually the ones that get hurt.

I had NO IDEA 7u kids got rings, especially rings of that size, for winning anything.
Who pays for that stuff?

I coach 11U / 12U in Denton. I love it but we have a core of maybe like 5 kids that truly want to be there. The rest are being forced by parents to play. I played baseball for 20 years mostly as a catcher and even made to to minor league ball for the high desert Mavericks (padres old minor league team) in Adelanto, CA from 90 - 92. I played until I destroyed my right knee and my old coach was Bruce Botchy. I see parents push their kids and even kids of divorce get stuck in the middle of the drama of parents who refuse to take their kids to practice or games.
My son refuses to play any sport and he’s 13. My girlfriends son is a big 11 year old and plays like he has no experience. So I see the good, the bad and the ugly...

Tournament directors buy the rings. They cost around 6 bucks each.
