We rented a cabin for the holiday weekend at The Retreat at Artesian Lakes (Chain-O-Lakes). The sunfish hit just about anything and everything I threw at them. The bass on the other hand did not. I saw several that looked to be on their nest. They would chase anything and wouldnt take anything. All my fishing this weekend was done from the bank. Reason #1 We spotted this guy from out deck within the first 10 minutes of unloading the car. He was probably in the 6-8 foot range. I spotted several over the weekend that were much bigger, maybe the 10-12 foot range. ![[Linked Image]](http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rmtii78/C7E4F0C0-47FC-484C-BA43-62346150BCFF.jpg) Reason #2 This guy was massive. He had to be 6-8 inches across the top of the head. Over the weekend I spotted a couple more. One about this size and one smaller. Im not sure why but these guys put more fear in me when I wade fish than alligators. ![[Linked Image]](http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rmtii78/70BB6988-DFEB-49A0-BE45-FF30B6B542FD.jpg) Now on to the fish ![[Linked Image]](http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rmtii78/71D1F6A9-524B-4A6A-8A37-9B96A3A2979E.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rmtii78/141B9C70-978A-41D3-B2A6-F88979DCED81.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rmtii78/75B7612F-D935-480A-B283-11A08D127176.jpg) And just so yall all dont think that all I do is toss around flys all day. I got this one while fishing with the kids. ![[Linked Image]](http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rmtii78/7A08CCC2-2FE3-43C3-8381-57472513EFC3.jpg)

Nice post and fish. Yes Sir in some places you got to watch for the gators! What type of bait (s) were you using?

I fished the same flies as last Friday when I fished Pedernales, a silliworm and a Llano bug. Between the last two trips I need to retire the silliworm. The silliworm is only being held on by literally a thread.
When it was time to fish with the kiddos I got a box of Canadian night crawlers. Nothing better to get the kids interested in fishing. I just can't wait to take my daughter (18 months) fishing for the first time.

and a super post. Looks like a good trip! Thanks for sharing. Side Note: Was the Retreat crowded and do you need to make reservations?

Thanks.
My wife took care of the reservations so Im not sure if they are needed or not. It wasnt crowded at all. It may be more of a family summer place than an Easter weekend getaway place.

Glad you had a nice time and were able to catch some fish! I have seen some other post over the years about the "Bluegill Cabins and Lakes". It's nice to know that there are places to stay and catch some sunnies.
