I was going to decarbon my Optimax. I am just learning about motors. On my Black Max I would just pull the airbox cover and run it through the carbs. I am guessing on the Optimax you just spray in to the air intake. Also does the 200 have an air filter? I have already replaced fuel filter. I run Seafoam in gas fairly regular.

From what I have read I am not sure that doing a de-carbon is even needed on an Optimax. Also not sure about running the stuff through the injectors. I have another ?. Is DFI oil worth the extra money or should I just use syn? I know it is not a lot and the Optimax does not use it like my old motor did.

I use the Optimax synthetic blend oil, if I recall correctly there was some discussion around here or another forum about the motor being sensitive to this oil... so i am not taking any chances... I pick up 3 gallons a year or so on amazon for $100.

DFI oil on Amazon is $47.xx and Wal Mart has it for $37.xx. I looked for it when I was searching for an air filter. Looks like the 200 does have an air filter. I just need to pull mine and check it before I order one. I have been tinkering with props and set up on this boat since I bought it almost 2 years ago. I bought a Power Tech OFS3 a year ago and dropped 2" from the MW Apollo I had. I did not get the bump in RPMs I thought I would. Probably because of the cup in the PT. Prop grips amazingly well. I jacked the motor up 2-1/2' from where I ran the MW and it has not lost any grip. I could not hardly run full trim with the MW. I know this boat can do better on the top end than what it is. I just want to make sure that all the maintenance on the motor is up to date before I go tinkering with the set up. The PT seems to be a good prop but I am really thinking Tempest Plus right now. Problem is I already have one unused prop sitting in the garage. I would love to find a 19" Tempest to test on it or talk to Josh about tweaking the PT. I have searched all for ideas but the only person I have found with a similar rig is a dude that has a 21' running a 225 Optimax.

I am sending you a PM on the oil.

I wish I could help you with the prop but I'm running the same as your friend, 21' 225 opti.

I just noticed that info is no longer showing up in signature line when reading on my phone. I really dont like this new format. We are running Champion Bay boats. Some call them bass boats on steroids. Not sure what the weight difference is but mine scales at 4650 with 40 gallons of fuel. That is less than 1/2 a tank

Don't spray decarb into the intake. Also DFI oil is recommended but Premium Plus is both acceptable and compatible with DFI oil.

I have resorted to looking at pics of Bay Boats to try to get some idea of where to run my motor on the transom. I dropped it 2" last week and nothing really changed. WOT RPMs almost the same.

Decarb not necessary with using the Sea Foam. Some Optimax`s have a compressor filter. Clean the water screen for the compressor water supply. Change the belt if you haven`t in a while.

You need a water pressure gauge to determine proper height of motor. Raise motor 1/4" at a time until you see a lowering of water pressure at WOT, bump it back down a 1/4" and lock it in place. Check that the pressure does not lower significantly in turns.

yep, have water pressure gauge and experience on a Ranger with setup. I had the Ranger dialed in. Funny thing I raised the motor 2" and water pressure went up. I might try another 1/2". I am thinking that I have the wrong prop or pitch. I am kicking myself for not getting a Tempest. I do have more gas then have ever had in boat so I need to burn some off and see how it does. On another note I installed an alternator charger. After almost a whole day of fishing I left the lake with 3 fully charged batteries.

The best thing you can do for your motor is run Mercury (Quik Clean) in every tank of gas at fill up.
Can buy at Academy. Get on (Bass Boat Central) in the Mercury Outboard section.
There is a wealth of info on maint. in the sticky section.
