How could you tell it was Jimmy Houston ? roflmao

I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later. I don't have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I don't have a curfew, I have a drivers license,a PU truck and I have a bass boat. I am blessed.

Conscience never acquits, it either accuses or excuses.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh because that hair looks a little fake to me..... roflmao

I started bass fishing about the time Jimmy and Bill Dance first came onto the scene back in the day. thumb

Met Jimmy a few years ago at Texas Boat World during fishing for freedom, he was a very nice man and talked with us for at least 30 minutes. Gave a good talk about his personal life at the banquet.

He used to own a little gas station and snack shop in Oklahoma. We drove all the way up from Texas one year when he was doing pictures and autographs just to get pictures with him, about a 7 hour drive back then (@55mph). i was 10 years old and he was my fishing hero. Never forget how friendly and open he was. He's truly one of the greats. Lots of great stories, and he had my little brother and I arguing over who caught the biggest fish then broke it up with a "Y'all still love each other though. Be good!" and we left happy & shaking his rough old hands.

I lost the pictures in a divorce a few years back (along with a lot more) but I'll never forget him. We're close to his place now. He still does special guide trips on his private lake for disabled kids. Awesome guy, and I don't say that about anyone anymore.

Never met him but he seems like a nice guy. I used to watch his show in the 80s and to this day I still always hum the theme song idling through the no wake zone.

A lot of you younguns don't know this about Jimmy but he could make them bite a spinnerbait when nobody else could in the BASS events. I attended a seminar at the Dallas Boat Show a few (decades) years ago and he was talking about spinnerbaits & blade combos.

He bent the hook down on a spinner and asked for a volunteer from the crowd. He gave the guy a coffee cup and asked him to walk around in the curtained off area. As he spoke about all the different spinnerbaits he has used he would tell the guy to stop and hold out the cup. He would make his famous underhanded roll cast and the spinner would go in the cup. He would reel it back and tell the guy to walk around some more.

A couple mins later he would tell the guy to stop again and he would put the spinner in the cup again. He did this about six times and never missed, at times the guy was a good 50' away.

He has mad casting skills and is a great ambassador for the sport.

Wow, Jimmy Houston is as good as gold. Of course, he's Okie. I've met him several times and he has always been very personable. He's my believer in the fact that green line is the only color line that cannot be detected in underwater photography. That's what he said and I believe Jimmy Boy! And that laugh!

He calls his cast an ice cream scoop cast. He is like a machine with it and accurate around boat docks.

I fished with him on RC at Megabucks and he was a hoot. He was in 2nd the day before and when I told him the day we were paired together that I only had 8 pounds and would probably not make the cut for the final amateur day he told me I would make it.
The day started off with him fishing hard, like a seasoned pro. No talk and you could tell he was focused. No fish till 9 something, then he caught 2 five pounders in three casts on his signature spinnerbait and the rest of the day was like the Jimmy Houston show. He kept me entertained. While following him I was throwing a jerk bait and caught a good crappie, maybe 2 pounds. Jimmy had me put it in the livewell in case we caught a few more. We didn't so we put that one back but by the end of the day I had 12 pounds and made the cut to fish the next day.

As we were coming back into the launch cove he asked what I was doing that night. I told him I had already packed and had planned to drive home. He asked me to come to his farm near Tyler and said we could go out after dark and do a little crappie fishing. I declined but kind of wish I hadn't. At the boat ramp as soon as we pulled up the ramp several fans came up to say hi and he spent 10 minutes signing autographs then said he needed to get to weigh in.
At the weigh in he was going to stay in the top 3 as he had another 15 pounds that day but he seemed more interested in where I would end up. He kept watching the weigh in board and when it was apparent I would make the cut he shook my hand.

Ten years later at the Classic I saw him giving autographs and talking to fans and thought I would go shake his hand again and my daughter and wife was in tow. Before I got to the front he looked up and saw me and said hi to me. After all the people he had met in the years between he still remembered the day we spent fishing.

If any of you know Les Kennedy, I think he worked as a mechanic for Jimmy decades ago.

I've known him since I was a kid, my dad fished with him many times and they are good friends. What you see on TV is the real Jimmy, genuine and funny. We flew back on the same plane from Alaska one time, my wife was 8 1/2 months pregnant and asked him how his fishing went. He hadn't had much luck and she started telling how many salmon and halibut she had caught. He told her it wasn't fair because that was 2 against 1.

I fished with him once on Texoma and we all went out to dinner that night. He's exactly as everyone has described him ... nice guy and lots of fun to hang out with.

Jimmy Houston is super cool! Back in 1998 when the Bass Pro opened up in North Carolina he was there for the Spring Classic and I stood in line and had him sign his book and a hat for me! Still have that book and enjoy watching him on tv! And YES I do KISS bass before releasing them!!

I remember when he gave that talk at the Fishing for Freedom, He said what ever you did to catch your last fish keep doing that even if it was making a birdsnest in your reel, if that caught a fish then you should get a birdsnest on EVERY CAST, Very down to earth gentleman and really funny.

I got to fish with Jimmy on the lake behind his house. I won a auction to buy the kids in the small town I live in state champ rings. Jimmy donated the trip. Hank Parker called him while we were fishing and he put his phone on speaker and they talked 30 minutes and there was no doubt who he was talking with. After the day was over his wife Chris and fried some fish and he invited me to have dinner with them. He kissed fish and did it all it was something I will never forget. We whacked'em just to make it sweeter!!

Jimmy is as good as they come.....

I still watch the show after all these years.
I was wondering the other day what it will be like when Bill and Jimmy aren't on TV anymore.
I think Bill's nearly 80, Jimmy can't be too far behind.

They've been an inspiration and an institution.

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

Bill is 74 I think and still kicking good . However when watching his shows I do notice he pants a lot like he's out of breathe too easy . Hank Parker is another one still kicking a lot and looks like he'll be good for another 20 yrs .

He's for sure one of the good guys!

Pretty easy to cut his hair, all you need is one of these.

I tell you who is doing great for their age and that's Roland Martin. He is 80 now and just last year I watched him and Scott hop out of the boat and push a full blown tournament rigged bass boat through some backwaters just to access some good water. Hope I got that kinda energy and determination at 80!

My dad was on both Roland and Jimmy's shows back in the 90s and they both contributed to a ceremony honoring his accomplishments in 2017. They were both incredibly gracious and he got to see them again when we fished CAST for Kids in Waco a couple years ago.

I have never heard anything but good things about the "Ole Fish Kisser". I bet I never do, either. I have always wondered though, if he has ever hurt his back or neck. Whatever, it didn't hurt his career.

Be safe,
