Appears to have a broke steering cable. Where is the best place to get fixed in DFW closer to Fort Worth the better.

If you have a set of screw drivers, and phone to take pics, you can probably do the repair yourself. Not too hard. Hardest for me was getting the new cables in the old wire wrap jacket. The new cables (the improved ones), were a little thicker than the gen 1 cables.

Another vote for Borris. He has been the trolling motor repair guy forever and always does great work without ripping your wallet away.

when pulling the cables thru the wrap, use baby powder. Put some on one hand then pull the cable through the hand, coating it thoroughly. I would also suggest keep a spare of cables with you or at least in your truck when it does happen again, because it will.

I got the steering cables in stock here at Southwest Marine Electronics in Dallas and the turn around time is about a day! Give me a call at 214-630-8161 and ask for Zach.

Is there a good Minn Kota service dealer around Sam Rayburn or a good trolling motor place that has parts?

Wow. Minn Kota must be laughing all the way to the bank. They have successfully developed a product that we fishermen are not only willing to pay the high initial cost of, but are also willing to purchase a sack full of their parts to carry around for the inevitable breakdown. After all, I have read on this very forum that there are two kinds of Ultrexes - those that have broken and those that will break.
I guess Minn Kota sees no urgency in providing a more reliable product given our willingness to continue forking out the money.

There's never been a product made that didn't break at one point or another. Hence repair shops for Rolls Royce and Rolex.

Does anyone really buy a Rolex expecting it to break? I realize there are places that exist to repair them if they do but that is not the expectation. The consensus on the forum is that the Ultrex WILL break. My point is that manufacturers will have no desire to change as long as were willing to pay double what they cost for a product that we expect to fail. Unfortunately its not just Minn Kota that falls into this category.

I've had mine for over a year now and havent had any major issues. I had a little issue with the power switch coming on by itself, but that was an easy fix.
I can't imagine fishing without it now. I'm mostly a mid range to deep water angler. It's opened a whole new range of options that I simply couldn't fish without it.
If it electrocuted me every time I pressed the button, I'd probably still fish with it.
