I just hate braid in general. I hate the way it feels, I hate how is comes through the guides, hate how it cuts my hands and hate the price. I can feel bites just fine with mono and it is a lot cheaper. Just my 2 cents.

I was the same , initially didn't like it. I had used Berkley big game 9 - 17 lb. What I always disliked about mono was the memory. After it sits on the reel in a rod locker or just in the sun - coils on coils.

When I first started using braid I didn't care for it either, it did some things mono didn't (wrap around eyes mainly). Braid will cut you if let it and I can't cut it with my teeth - must have knife or clippers.

The positive - no memory, lasts much longer that mono( I have a few reels spooled with year and a half old line and I am sure I fish quite a few more days than the average guy), no stetch - zero, and it is breakable, hence the lb rating.

The only positive for mono to me is the cost and when you factor longevity into the equation the price point doesn't look as good.

I would probably use braid on some of my rigs if it were invisible like Mono. I have used braid in the past and caught fish. However, in the back of my mind I wondered how many I didn't catch because they saw the line and stayed away.

I also use braid with fluorocarbon leaders. I use seagaur invizx fluorocarbon for the leaders. I've had the same braid main line on my stradic ci4 for years without problems. I would of already had to change mono or fluoro out if it were my main line. If I could only choose one line though, it would be fluorocarbon in case the fish are line shy.

Another trick you can use with braid on your reels if it gets too old and faded, and you have an empty reel, just tie the line to the spool of the empty reel and transfer the line over to that reel and all the line that was on the bottom of the original reel will now be on the top of the extra reel with fresh unused line.
There are other ways to do it, but you get the idea.

Just one more cast!

I use Braid on most of my setups. Spinning reels are 100% braid. More feel and 10lb braid in a spinning reel seems to not coil up as bad and overall feel of the bite is better. I still have a few mono setups for top water and spinnerbaits. All else goes to braid. And I only spool up once a year instead of re-spooling 3 times a year with mono. I found an inexpensive braid on amazon "Kastking" and it has been a good option for the penny pincher as myself. I did land a 32 lb yellow cat with 10 lb kastking braid while slabbing for sandies so it does hold up.

I only use braid for 4-5 applications, and only use braid for said applications. None of which are for Striper. Except maybe deadsticking. Seaguar Invizx or Big game for me when it comes to Striper/Hybrids.

I love braid; my sons hate it, we fish together and I catch just as many on braid and sometimes more. I use it for all game fish. Most of my rigs are with 65# Power Pro because of the diameter. I switched from Berkley big game years ago and never looked back.

25 lb Big Game 20 leader on Bait rigs. 5 lb decrease on certain lakes. flouro leaders if serious on clear lakes.
30Lb braid with 20 flouro for casting Sassys, roadrunners etc. same dead sticking
20-30 with mono leader for Top waters right now.

slab rods and or spinning 20lb braid lighter leaders.

If someone says mono casts further than braid their arbor is not properly full of line or something is not right.

Just got the first new reel Ive bought in many years, Ive used green Curados forever. I got a Lews Inshore SLP and while I love the reel I cant figure out how to cast the silly thing without the dang line getting screwed up. Ive used braid for years, bought spectra (dont remember the brand). I did ok for most of a day, the dang thing started backlashing, just minor backlashes that turned into a stinking mess because for whatever reason it always looped up and dug deep into the spool. Had to cut about 1/3 of the line out- kept chunking and shortly after did it again. Re-spooled that evening and the dumb thing did it again the next day-useless for the rest of day 2.

Respooled, threw for 20 min today and another dug in backlash. Managed to pull that one out, shortly after another one- needed to cut out. Finally threw a few more and again a minor backlash is so stinking deep that I had to put it away.

Do any of you have advice? Before writing this I thought it was the line but Im beginning to think that newer reels just dont throw the same as my 15-20yr old Curados; maybe Im throwing too hard.

Do new reels require significantly less effort to throw or is it the line or what?

Just thinking this through to ask yall makes me think that new baitcast reels are much easier to throw and Im the problem here. I LOVE the casting distance, much smoother and casts much farther than my curados but parts are no longer available for curados so I have to replace them. Want to love Lews but just cant make it work. Was going to try different braid but maybe that isnt the solution.

Any advice is appreciated.

I have two of those reels and throw 30 lb Power Pro with everything from Croaker, to Little Georges to 7" Pencil Poppers and have no problems. I have them on a 7' Med and a 7' Med Lt rod.
