Some of my buddies and I are headed to Crystal Beach Thursday, April 11th for a few days and are hoping to catch some fish. We primarily fish freshwater and will have some catfish setups with us that can handle decent sized fish.
What can we expect to catch (if anything)? Will there be any issue catching bait with a cast net or seine? We will probably have some lighter gear with shrimp and squid for whiting, but would love to catch a bull red or 2, and a shark would be an added bonus!
We are really just wondering what to expect. We are from DFW, and I have caught some bull reds in the past, but would love to get these guys on some fish if it is the right time of year.
Thanks.
Thanks, Olen

Sounds like you have a good plan. You should be able to net some bait. Make sure to take some pyramid weights or spider weights the wave action and current will wash your line right back to the shore without enough weight. Also he sure to rinse your reels off in fresh water after each use. I've ruined a few rigs by not cleaning the saltwater off well enough. Good luck and have fun

Yes sir. We have some pyramid and spider weights. And we will make sure and rinse the gear daily. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks, Olen

There will be a few trout and slot reds in the surf. Bait you catch, 2 under a cork should do the trick. Also, Buy some fresh dead shrimp, catch whiting and croaker on a crappie hook, then cut or use whole for reds and sharks on a steel leader or at least 40lb mono and a decent size circle hook.
Livescope, ruining a body of water near you!

Rollover Pass has been good for trout on the incoming tide. Double jigs bounced off the bottom on the bay side of the bridge has accounted for some large numbers of trout as well as a significant number of PB trout. Rig your double jigs with the upper(short ) line with a 3/8 oz jig head and the lower (long) line with a 1/4 oz jig head. White zooms(4 inch) and 3 inch rootbeer tails have been consistent. Tight lines!
