I am putting together a new crappie fishing boat. I plan to go with either a Riptide or Ulterra. The regular Ulterra comes with a built in transducer while the Riptide does not. I hope to make it down to the coast once or twice a year. Will the salt water eat my regular Ulterra up? Thanks ahead of time Marty

Salt kills/corrodes things. Make sure to wash your boat//trailer/motor/trolling motor with Salt Away. Flush your motor with it too. Also be sure and spray Corrosion X on all your wiring.

Yes a non saltwater Ulterra will begin degrading immediately upon putting in salt. Get the saltwater rated one. The freshwater wont hurt it. Lol

Go with a rip tide, don't even think about putting a fresh water only trolling motor in the salt. It will void your warranty and will damage the trolling motor.

Salt water is just a little less than instant death for the black motors.

Did a part lookup on them they are the same part numbers just painted a different color. You will be fine just wash it like you would any other trolling motor.

From Minn Kotas website.
The Minn Kota Riptide trolling motors have a number of "saltwater-engineered" enhancements, including stainless steel hardware, sealed electrical connections and an advanced painting process for improved corrosion protection. Using any of our standard Minn Kota motors in saltwater may dramatically reduce the life of the motor and voids the manufacturer's warranty.
But hey it's your 3k.
