Howdy Everyone,

With prime fishing at Toledo upon us, I'm in middle of tuning up my reels. I've bought several different types of bearing to try out (Boca, VXB & Dads Ole Tackle Version) to try and see the results. My question today is whether the ratio on the Curado 200 can be changed from 3.8:1 to a ratio like the 200B5, which I believe is 5.5:1. If so, what gears need to be changed ? The drive & pinion ?

Yes I would change the drive and the pinion gear

That gear ratio is the number of teeth on the drive gear vs. the number of teeth on the pinion gear. So adjust accordingly.

Thanks for the replies. I've changed the gear ratio in two of my 200 B Curados and the results are fantastic !! In addition to the gear swap, I also installed a tune kit (bearings, drag washers) offered by Dads Ole Tackle and really like the results. Can't say enough good things about the folks at Dads Ole Tackle, their customer service is second to none. I can order parts and receive them the next day (in some cases). It helps that I live fairly close but they really focus on full-filling orders.

While I am doing some spring cleaning and tune-ups, I am also doing some comparisons to various bearings on the market since I have so many of these Curado 200s its easy. Right now, I have a reel with the Boca bearings, VBX and Dads Ole Tackle version.

Will post the results when I've had a chance to test drive all of them.

Dads Ole Tackle is a great little shack out in the middle of no where.
He has more parts, rods and reels and hard to find items.
When I lived in Houston I was by pretty often.
You could spend hours just looking through all of his stuff.

He also makes some sweet custom rods.
I wish he was closer to Dallas but yes he ships quick.

Thank you,
Shawn Smith
