Last fall I started fishing through openings and in boat stalls from the deck of a marina in central Texas. Caught lots of channel cats, with good numbers of blue cats mixed in. The marina is located in a large creek arm of the lake, anchored in water that is 42 feet deep.

After about the first week of January, the catfish disappeared, havent caught one since. All of March, ive been catching some fairly good stringers of crappie, but that now seems to be slowing down too.

Would any of you more experienced fishermen be able to predict when the catfish may return? I will greatly appreciate all replies.

If there is flow from a near creek/river try there! Hand dug worms is the ticket!

Most catfish are headed shallow this time year. After the summer heat starts kicking in Im sure some fish will start showing back. If a thermocline sets in they may suspend or move to shallower water then also.

clk, I was kinda thinking they wont come back until next summer and it is helpful that you think that also. At least, hopefully, I wont have to wait until next fall. Many thanks for both replies. Tight lines my friends.

Have you ever given any thought on trying some type of attractant? Maybe range cubes placed in a fish basket, or dog food?
Sour grain tied off to the slip if they would allow it?

Just one more cast!

Jimbo, thanks for the reply. Yeppers, I threw out range cubes and also dropped some down in a burlap sack, went back the next day, and again the next day, threw our more, and didnt catch anything but a big old carp. Best I can tell there just are not any in there right now.

Yesterday morning, I checked cats with a fishfinder and control castings with shad. They were at 28-32 feet in Lake Livingston. Only few were in shallow water, probably, before the cold front?
