Why is there so much mapping detail with lakemaster compared to hotmaps? I like my HDS units and all but the more I see from Birds the more I wonder why I’m still with Lowrance? Don’t even mention mapping features!...

If you can't find em wind em.

HD Contours!

Nothing against Hot Maps i used to use them, but IMO they can't hold a candle to Lakemaster, even more so if your lake has been mapped recently by Humminbird.

Your PM box is full.

Hmm, I see the exact opposite. I even find Lakemaster off a bit when it comes to specific features like humps. Maybe I'm not doing something right...

It depends on what lake if I use Lakemaster or Navionics. For instance Rayburn I will almost solely use Navionics then Toledo Bend I will use mostly Lakemaster it depends on the lake if one is better than the other.

I know there's spots we fish at Fork that are spot on on Hotmaps. But Lakemaster doesn't even show the hump or point, etc.

Unfortunately a lot of LakeMaster's lakes weren't even surveyed by LakeMaster. You can see this in their lake list. Ones like Amistad, they just took other folks' survey data. Some lakes they took the data and thought it was really accurate, and put it in bold (on the lake list), and then some lakes they surveyed themselves and deemed it the highest quality.

Too bad that a lot of the lakes they didn't even survey themselves.

For this reason, I also kept my Navionics chip after getting the LakeMaster one.. I thought LakeMaster would be the Cat's Meow, but it just didn't turn out that way.

Both cards are great tools and one may outshine one on one lake and then it be completely opposite on another. With Navionics Platinum or Nav+ Regions it is important to keep them updated and to be sure to use the card to its full potential. The biggest thing I see with Navionics cards is users not turning on the Sonar Chart layer data, most of the time on a Humminbird it automatically comes on, but on a Lowrance, the very first time you use the card in the unit, you have to turn on the Sonar Chart Layer. This layer is where all of the updates are stored. On a Humminbird, it is -Hit Menu Twice, go to Chart, Chart Options, then scroll to the right to display "Left FishNChip Card" (if the card is in the Left Slot). On a Lowrance is is under - Menu, Chart Options, View, then select Sonar Chart.

Here is a cheat sheet:Navionics Sonar Chart

At the end of the day, both are great tools and both have their places they shine or options on one that doesn't exist on the other etc, but if you run a Humminbird why limit yourself to only one tool? Do you only use 1 rod and reel? Just my opinion.
