I had leaky seals and noticed my motor would bounce up and down while trailering, so I would put a ratchet strap around the motor while trailering to hold pressure against the transom saver.
Today I got the boat back from a shop where I had the tilt and trim rods replaced and new seals and all.
While trailering home I figured it would now be solid and its still bouncing up and down.
The tech said it may take some usage to get the system to bleed out completely.
Motor is a 1997 Yamaha pro v 200hp.

Is he right?
Thanks!

Does your transom saver pole twist lock to the trailer?

Mine does, then I lower motor and add a little pressure too saver pole to make sure its snug, the I use a strap that goes around the lower gear, just above the prop housing and back to the saver pole.

If you dont have a transom save pole attached to the trailer and just using the tilt n trim, then you are putting a lot of pressure on you transom wall on your boat and the hydraulics. This is most probably why its bouncing.

Yes I trim it down and put pressure on the transom saver and I can still pull up by hand on the motor and it has an inch of lift.

yeah, do you have a transom saver that goes from the trailer to the gear case, or do you have a tilt/trim saver that attaches to engine mount?

I have both. Prior to getting the repairs done I was using the ones with two sticks that slide over the trim rods. On the way home yesterday I stopped and got the old school trailer to lower unit kind. Same issue with both.

Might take it back to shop,if the tech is worth his salt he would bleed the system and make it right before it leaves his shop.

ricky, that should have locked that engine down pretty good then. i would look a little further in, engine mount pivot tube, engine mount bolts, transom, even the bunks and straps to make sure the hull secured to the trailer

I will call him Monday and see what he says.
Just left the lake for the day, no issues, no fluid leak.
But I can still trim it down to trailering height and raise the motor by had about an inch still.
Transoms good just had a new jack plate installed not too long ago and he checked the transom, and the bunks and straps are fairly new as well.
I can see its the like the tilt piston isnt holding in good or something like that.

Find another tech. It's a sealed system and it can't bleed itself.

Do you have a Transom Saver?

what throws me off is he says he has strapped it down and used both styles of transom savers at the same time and it still does it, makes me think the hull is soft and bouncing on the trailer causing the movement while trailering. the only other thing i can think of is it's just wear and tear on the ram shock pins and bushings and the engine mount bracket pivot bolt themselves. a little movement at the pins will show a lot of movement at the gearcase kinda thing.

As mentioned above, check the swivel tube on the motor. The bearings get worn out and the motor will shake. Sure do hope its not the transom flexing.

he had a skeeter. There is no such thing as flex in a skeeter transom. It is aluminum between the composite and the aluminum is braced and welded to stringers that run up through the hull. The transom, with its four mounting bolts, can support the entire weight of the hull.

His trim pump still has slack in it. The thing had air in it and isnt repaired correctly. No a transom issue, and no motor toter or transom support/trailer thing is ever gonna help.

The aluminum bracing didnt come around until 2001 or 2002, with his motor being a 97, isnt his boat older? Im not arguing, could be the pump, I dont know.

Sorry if I confirmed anyone. It doesnt do it if Ive got the motor strapped down. Thats how I trailer it being thats the only way to keep it from bouncing. Transoms solid as a rock.
