Going on a family vacation to Tabernash, CO (northern CO) in a couple months.
The house we're renting has access to a 5 acre pond.
I'm thinking about taking some fishing gear for my nieces & nephews.
Any idea what species might be there and what tackle I should take?

If its stocked it would be rainbow trout. I would use rooster tails, eggs, and night crawlers. Bobber meathod or bottom with hook-crawler off bottom about 6". Fly fishing with caddis hair, wooly worm. Have fun and enjoy

Night crawlers tipped with small marshmallows work amazingly well for trout.

Panther Martins in 1/16, 1/32 and 1/8 oz spinners. Dressed or not. They are fun to throw when the bobbers get boring. I have great luck with rainbow, brown and brook trout patterns. Just cast and reel. Pinch the barbs for ease of releasing the small ones, they can swallow them deep if hungry. Fly on a bobber too if worms and marsh mallows are not working. Power baits for trout work well up here too, eggs or soft worms , etc. Usually orange and pink are best for trout.

Make sure you take some lightweight rods and light line. Zebcos work fine for reels. 5 1/2-7 ft rods with a lively tip for a fun fight. I enjoy a good spinning reel but for kids push button would be best. 6 lb line.

Just a follow-up. Back from vacation in Colorado. We caught quite a few trout, enough to grill some for everyone (seven people not counting my niece who wouldn't touch them). Almost all caught on a weird little spinner I bought at a local store. Don't recall the name but it looked like a gold money clip with a treble hook.

There's just nothing that compares to the taste of grilled trout that were just caught....your niece really missed out on a great dining experience.

It looked almost exactly like this Jake's Spin-a-Lure, could be it. Thanks! The house we rented had some spinning rod & reels and a small sad Plano tackle box. I restrung the reels and left whatever tackle I didn't use in the tackle box for the next renter.

Yep super dupers are great lake lures as well. They are made for long range casting in the wind. The super duper is a longer lure, the spin a lure is shorter and fatter. A go to when fishing lakes in wind up here, also stays up out of the weeds below the surface.
