Pretty loaded question. A lot of people are at $500 boat/$200 storage/$100 insurance per month before they even make a cast. Other people don't have a boat or storage payment. You can spend $30k a year, or $3k just depends on how and where you fish.

Asking a fisherman this is like asking a woman how old she is or how much she weighs.
It's just not done boy!

Outside of boat payments if you have to have them I would say cost of ownership of an older boat has run me about $1000 a year in repairs and maint. another $200 in gas a month, fishing tackle is completely up to you, I definitely spend more than i need to maybe $300 a month, insurance can be any where from $40 (older boat) to $100 or more per month, but as far as pure boat ownership lets say repairs, maint, upgrades, insurance $2,500-$3,000 + payments (if needed)+ tackle+tournament fees (if you intend to)

I see some of you guys chiming in on the pros and cons of the NRX vs the Conquest and yet are claiming to spend 2K per year on fishing? Did you put a zebco on that thing and bobber fish the pond across the street or what?

I'm thinking there are some low estimates on here. Even if you own your boat you should be counting the depreciation expense. Let's call that 5-10% of the purchase price annually. Don't forget about trailer/truck tires. Trolling motor batteries. Rain gear. Licenses. Launch fees. Navionics upgrades. Gas station food on the way to lake. The full yearly maintenance on my motor is 800 bucks. I do most of it myself and stretch out the hard to do expensive filter replacements about 3 times the recommended period. That drops the cost to maybe 300 annually. For me the big expense is fishing vacations. Last year was a canadian fly-in. $5K. Year before Tarpon in the Keys. $5K. This year I'm going to the boundary waters $2K (mostly gear).

When you divide it all out on a per fish basis it'll make you cringe! roflmao

Roughly $10-12K depending on how many tournaments I fish and how many hotels I stay in... I did not include fuel costs in my math because sometimes I burn 2 tanks, sometimes I burn the gas to my spot and back.

Cost:
Boat Payment
Boat Insurance
Monthly estimated tackle costs
Tournament entry fees
Hotel estimates

This sounds about right. But, might move the $3k to $5k.

I used to keep track of everything, kept records all that. I finally stopped, it was ridiculously high, its one thing I enjoy, will keep on doing it till the end.

One of the funniest things I heard from a young kid who's budget was way too tight to afford a boat and everything that comes along with it said that he forgot to factor in launch ramp fees and that put him over budget roflmao

Felt bad for him though. He bought a really old boat and within a couple of weeks he found out the transom was completely rotten in it.

Thats my money fish

Too much but will probably keep spending. Being honest, i think i could have spent 10% of what i paid for tackle over the years and still caught 90% of the bass i did catch.
