Hey everyone its finally that time of year to go hit the rivers and do some white bass fishing. I will be headed out around Colorado Bend State Park this weekend and was just trying to get an idea on the run so far. Anyone with pictures or Intel on how the run is currently going please share!

Welcome to the forum, Nikhubb.

I'm sure if you use a larger font next time, someone will give a report, grin

Joking. I don't see a lot of reports come through from this place, but I know from experience the fish are probably there. Good luck.

Welcome aboard Nikhubb. Love it out there at the Bend. Fish at night if you can. Much better results. Run has been going on for a few weeks now, might be close to finishing up.

The weather there has been stop and go for the run. That said, I’ve heard of whites being caught all the way into May in past years.

The fish are biting. Even catching quite a few crappie.
If you are planning on going to the state park you better have reservations or get there extremely early. They have had the gates closed to anyone that doesn't have a reservation.

This weekend will be really busy with spring breaks happening.

Keep an eye on the LCRA Hydromet. Up river mustve had some good rains because in Goldthwait, it jumped to 1600 cfs, meaning the water has to go somewhere, and its rising now at the park. Which sucks, as I have camping reservations for tomorrow. If the water rises, the fishing will be gone until the water gets back down. Any others watching this too?

1600CFS isn't that much and won't last long. I wouldn't worry about it.

I was up there at the Bend a few weeks ago (during the week) and there were several boats. Caught some nice ones up there but not near the numbers as other years. Maybe they are later this year...

Running 2100 cfs but slowly dropping. Will probably be tomorrow when the water is back to normal, but I'm sure this swift water might've sent the whites back to main lake? Either way, I'm fixing to head out there for the weekend, hoping I will be able to drop my yak in the water.

I'll be heading down tomorrow until next Thursday. If they got knocked down a bit, I hope they jump back up quickly!
Weather isn't supposed to be great but it will be nice being out there.

The run has barely even started. The weather has been keeping the big waves of fish away. As soon as we get some steady warm weather, it will be on. Warm spring rains will get em going.

I went for a few hours this afternoon. Water was high and muddy, all the rocks and islands were underwater. I didn’t catch anything, and I didn’t see any caught by anyone else, either. That big rain Tuesday night no doubt responsible, I’d wait a couple more days at least, to give it time to clear up

We are going Sunday and Monday. Hopefully we can get some stability in the weather and better water.

[align:center][/align]I’d guess the water will be down by then, barring further rain. Please give us an update on conditions when you go.

Here’s a helpful site which shows the flow at Bend. Looks like conditions are now better, and will be back to normal by tomorrow.

Does anyone know if there is ATT cell service on the river between the falls to the boat ramp?

I can't speak about AT&T, but as of last year there was zilch coverage for T-Mobile.

We fished below the park and caught some nice ones all around 17". We also trolled around near the mouth of the river and caught several there too...

Very limited service between Fall Creek Falls and Bend. Few spots you can get out but its sketchy at best

Well we went this past weekend, water was high, dropped steadily all weekend tho. Hard to get them to bite with the muddy water. Ended up catching 8 females. I will go back out this weekend and try on friday before the rain and see if the water has cleared up.

That's good to know, thanks. We were going to do a meet up at the ramp thing when one person got there late but we've sorted that out and everyone coming at the same time now so no worries. Thanks for the reply!

Nerodia; there are almost no 17 inch white bass in Buchanan. If you caught fish that size, you may want to review the fish ID section at the top of the white bass/ Hybrid forum.

Belton Bill: you got the wrong guy-went last week during high water, and got royally skunked! Lol

I'll be headed out to Bend, TX again this Friday to hopefully catch some more females. I'm guessing the water has had time to clear up since last Sunday. I'll post a report Sunday after I catch my limit wink

I plan to drive up again tomorrow. Looks like the flow is pretty much back to normal now. We’ll see how they’re biting!

FYI, Colorado Bend SP is closed for any access due to capacity as of 12:30 Friday. Expected to open up after 2 but we’re turning around and heading back to Brownwood. Lady at the gate said the fishing is picking up some after the muddy water starting to clear up but no where near what it was before the river came up. When we drove back across it still looked murky. This is what she park police lady told us but she wasn’t fishing just going by what people told her.

Hoping Pecan Bayou has some whites running. When we drove across that bridge last night at almost midnight we couldn’t see the color but it was reported to have been cleared up back to normal which is never very clear.

For anyone down here at the Bend and fishing, I hope the lady was Wrong!!!

I drove up yesterday. Arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon, fished until 6:30. Caught 16, but only half were keepers, and only one of those was a big female. A fly rodder fishing nearby had twenty on his stringer, but he had been there since dawn. Almost all of his were males as well. I think the river needs to drop at least a few more inches.

Well between the 5 of us fishing this weekend we sure did pretty good. Limits were caught daily between us. Water was still brown but they were biting in the quicker moving currents throughout the entire day.

Has anyone had any luck in the last few days? Was contemplating one more trip but wanted to see if there has been any recent action.

I started catching them about the third week of February. Thinking this year we will start a few weeks earlier. Anyone have success early in February -- maybe the first week?
