Heading there Friday to fish with my father. I'm from N TX and never been there. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Not looking for your secrets. Just some general info so I'm not starting at zero. And I promise to turn my lights off at the ramp.
Thanks in advance.

First, I would definitely choose a different lake. It isn't the lake that it once was. That being said, I would start straight across the lake from the ramp and hit the smaller clump of trees. From there it is going to be a [censored] shoot.

Fished there on Saturday. Water temps 55 and the water is still extremely muddy. I didn't get a single bite and didn't talk with anyone else who did. It will be good once it warms up but I expect the cold front this week will keep it tough for at least the next few days.

I've fished it a few times this year and it's been extremely slow every time. I'd head to Somerville personally.

Well that sucks. Thanks a bunch for the replies. Any lakes producing around the Houston area that we should hit instead?

**** CONROE **** concentrate on ditches and creeks in the very back of coves ---- they are in late pre-spawn pattern boat docks 2nd 3rd --brush piles if you can find them or know where they are Look at the results from the Conroe Bass Pro Big Bass Tour from last week I was there ---- my boy weighed in a 6.2 and a 7.1 and only got checks for 3rd & 4th in the hour with Houston's warmer weather heading into the weekend it should be really good Put in at Stow-A-Way up north and fish that cove and then go across the lake and fish the Caney Creek Cove ---- way in the back

If I was going to go and wanted to catch some quality fish I would drive to Fayette. It's a power plant lake that is still running and with this crazy weather and the water temp changing your chances of catching fish there are better.

Fayette will be much easier and you shouldnt have to work too hard to catch a few. Just got off Conroe a bit ago. Warmest temperatures I found were in the low 54 range and theyre not up shallow just yet. Conroe looks better than the last time I was out but still a bit off color. Oh, and I only fish north of the 1097 bridge so I cant speak for what is going on in the south end.
Avoid Raven in Huntsville state park too. It used to be a great little bass lake but as of last Friday the water looked like coffee with creamer- zero visibility and from the grapevine reports theres no one catching anything there.

Sucks to hear that about Raven. Used to be one of my favs. Is all the grass gone causing the muddy conditions?

Gibbons was good for a couple years about 3 to 4 years ago. That was when the reeds were growing well, amd there was some grass. Then they went and eradicated the vegatation and now all there is is some pads.

Was at Raven the week BPT was at Conroe. A few of the elites were there doing photo shoots. On THURSDAY FISHED WITH Jacob Wheeler and was asked to come back Friday morning. When I got there K V D was launching then Ike then Gerald Swindle. Needless to say I had a blast with these guys and yes the water was nasty but it has been raining around there for six weeks straight. The only one to catch a fish was Swindle so they used that one fish to do the shoot. When we get good weather back Raven will clear up and yes the lake has all the hydrilla you could want.
