Somewhere along the way, I�ve collected a dedicated rod/reel for every technique I *MAY* ever use and I keep them rigged with said technique. I�m probably approaching 20 rods and it�s becoming s tangled mess. So how many do you keep in your boat? What�s your system to make sure you�re covered with most presentations that may come up? Let�s hear it.

I have 10-12 in my boat. When I'm fishing with someone, they ususlly have 5-7 rods.

How many rods do you need in the boat? The answer to this is how many I can get in the rod box and on the deck,then I usually use 1 all day.

I thought a minimum of 32 rods on the deck were required to be considered a pro.

I keep 12-14 in my boat but that includes my wife's and my son's as well.

I carry 21 and my regular team partner brings 20

For me 4 at the most I can retie in seconds no need to bring more.

I use the following formula:
# of rods = hours you will fish shallow + hours you will fish deep + 2 topwater rods (multiplied by vegetation factor)

One of my guests a few yrs back I told 2 only showed up with 12 spent half hr plus rigging them at ramp used 2 all day, his last trip..

My rod locker looks like "Sinkey"s. I have about 30 but that is only my bass fishing rods. I always carry everything because it fits and its out of the way. When I am on fish I usually only have 3 rods on the deck. A primary rig with an exact duplicate spare (that way if I break off or whatever happens, its already rigged and ready to go) and a 2nd "chance" style rig-if I get bit on primary and miss them I can throw the 2nd chance and probably get bit. When I am not on them I usually have about 922,372.6 rods on my deck as I am flailing

Half of those belong to Mrs. Sinkey in the back of the boat! Lol.

Seems like no matter how many I have, I always need just one more.

They are just a little different than a Carolina Rig from weightless to 3/4 oz. all pegged.
Most are fished with a Captain Grumpy Cat Tail.

It is a Spanish term as we fish these rigs in Mexico. On almost all of them I use Captain Grumpy's Cat Tail.

Those cork rod handles are WAY to clean. Do you actually fish with them or or are you so complusive that you clean them after each use?

depends on the time of the year and if you really know the lake and the conditions .
If I really know the lake and conditions , you can bring 6-8 rods max . If I am not sure at all , I bring more .

I can fit 8 in the console, 4 in the leaning post, 4 in the gunnels, and 14 in the rod lockers so 47.

I like to take 3 or 4. Give or take 30 or so. If I can fit it in my boat it's going.

There is nothing with regards to bass fishing that has anything to do with NEED!

I try to keep rod socks and lure wraps on the rods in the locker. I limit my deck to no more than 6 rods at a time (3 on each side) and that seems to work. Also instead of carrying so many rods in the locker, I just bring extra reels with different line sizes that I can change out if something calls for it. Any set ups that are harder to tie, I make sure I have in the locker (drop shot for example or anything that requires FG knots for leaders). A quality 7 ft MH rod can cover of a lot techniques, so that is where I simplified by keeping the extra reels in my glove compartment. Hope that helps

Some were cleaned with magic eraser this winter when I sold a bunch. And a lot of them are new from Falcon.

Usually 5, 4 bait casters and 1 spinning, maybe a spare spinning pole in the box for emergency.

More than 5 and I switch too much, usually only really use 2-3 on a trip.

I leave the extra's at home and rotate out a couple each trip.

1997 Megabucks. I was able to be the ride along with Woo Daves at the finals, taking note of when he caught a fish and making sure he followed the rules.

Driving into the parking lot across the lake from the weigh in, it was still dark and all the boats except his was already there. He had his radio up playing loud country music. When we got out there seemed to be a competition already going.
Everyone was comparing how many rods they had in the boat. Woo had 16 and he wasn't in the running. I don't remember who but 24 was the winner.
Denny Brauer was next to Woo Daves in the parking lot and my favorite fisherman. I noticed he had 18.

i usually keep 3 in my boat. Just what i need to cover the bases.

1) 7'6" casting: medium/moderate - crank baits, swim jigs
2) 7'0" casting: medium,heavy/fast - all purpose, spinner baits, flipping/football jigs, C & T rigs, top water
3) 7'0" spinning: medium,light/fast - for the light stuff 3/16 or less, wacky rigs, Ned rigs,

Alt) 6'6" casting: medium,heavy/fast - shorter rod for when my lake is high & i'm deep in the creeks

pre-fishing - as many as I can carry

tournament- what I found out or eliminated in pre-fishing

fun fishing - new stuff and my favorites

I fish alone a lot so I have to have a lot of rods in the locker to balance out my big butt in the drivers seat
