I�m looking for a good set of fishing pliers. Any recommendations that have a good long needle nose and cut mono and braid well? I don�t mind spending some money, but $300+ for van stalls seems silly.

Man I have bought many sets. Most of which end up at the bottom of the lake.. some how?? Lol as far as pliers the ones Academy sells are great.. long enough, also built in cutters, crimpers, and are pretty cheap. For line cutters I go to Walmart in the sewing/ craft dept. they have wire flush cutters and small scissors cheap. I get both for like 6 bucks. They cut braid awesome and last for ever. I buy two sets I keep one set on the bow and a set in the middle of the boat for my partner or if I drop one. The flush cutters are small and after I started using them I could never go without a pair. Trim your knots, cut braid, clean paint off a new jig head.. they are a awesome tool.

I buy cheap wire cutter 6 pc sets from Lowes for 9.99 you and utility scissors for braid 3.99. Cheap enough to loose and solid enough for snipping lines.

Couple years back I found a pair of Buck Splizzors marked down at Academy. Great tool and primarily use it. But I also carry a pair of Craftsman needle nose and cheap scissors I picked up from Harbor Freight.

Pliers, man...don�t overthink it. Grab a generic set of needle nose at your nearest tool dept and carry on. I�ve yet to find any that�ll consistently cut braid, though, so I got a set of Gerber scissors for that.

Same here. A couple cheap pairs of pliers, a handful of the cheap Fiskar small scissors, and several of the line clippers. If I had one expensive, �do-it-all� something, I�d just get mad looking for them. Ha

Penn, Berkely, and bubba blade all make some decent quality fishing pliers. If they are just used for freshwater most pliers will work. If they will be used in saltwater make sure to get ones made with aluminum or titanium.

Harbor freight flush cutters, long nose needle nose. Work great and when you drop them in the lake No Biggie! Lol the $1.00 blue handle scissor a Walmart cut Braid awesome too. Lol I keep a couple pair of each handy.

Since this is a two year old thread...I’d like to update my choice to titanium handled scissors with diamond cutting teeth.

I use a set of cabelas aluminum pliers, and for cutting line I carry a set of tweezerman toenail clippers on a lanyard around my neck. I took them from my wife but they work damn fine and haven't missed a lick in over three years.

Leatherman tool works for me. Pliers, knife, scissors, screwdriver and philips head - one tool, does it all, easy to carry in your pocket or on your belt and lots of price and quality options for any budget.

I have a set of those and they are nice!

I keep a pair of Gerber Neat Freak scissors to cut my line with including braid.
