Looking to pick up a cheaper sit on top style fishing kayak to use as a buddy boat, kayak for my girlfriend to use like once a year, and to throw into some really tight, shallow, or other weird ponds, creeks, etc.. , where i do not want to launch my nicer kayaks. I know there are tons of cheap options out there and i could easily just go buy a crappy sun dolphin or, even a cheaper Cabelas Ascend, etc... but, i am just wondering if any of the forum guys have experience with any of these budget type kayaks, and what would be a good option. Also if anyone has an older sit on top they want to sell for a reasonable price after considering what i will be using it for shoot me a DM with pictures and what you are asking for it.

I am not on Facebook, but I definitely will check Craigslist regularly, I've seen some good deals on there in the past.

I picked up an awesome deal on a jon boat with trailer from "Offer Up". I know I see kayaks on their often. Lastly, I would not rule out an Ascend kayak. For the price, you wont get a more stable yak.

Best sit on top $1000 price range, little less or more? I've been fishing out of a Jackson Kilroy for a year, and looking at The Coosa, Cuda, Liska, the Bite, Nu Canoe, & others. I've watched alot of videos on YouTube, read tons of reviews, forum posts, etc.... Any others I should look at or demo? The Coosa/Cuda are pretty high on my list right now, and I've seen some great clearance deals on new prior year models locally.

The Ascend and Pescador 12 are the first that came to mind

Every now and the Academy will put the Perception Pescador 12 at a really low clearance price ($399).

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Like collincountytx said, the Perception Pescador 12 is a great bang-for-the-buck fishing kayak. I've been fishing one for over six years, in lakes, rivers and in the coastal marshes. However, if your girlfriend or buddy are not "kayakers", they'll probably fall out in the first 50 feet!. They're tender and round-bottomed, but that's what makes them fast and maneuverable, along with a weight of only 61 pounds. If they can successfully fish in a Pescador 12, they'll be pros in a wide, flat-bottomed yak! You can find used Pescadors as low as $350, used, normally with a paddle and PFD. The seats are usable, but lame. With a few upgrades, they're great kayaks. In that price range, there's a LOT of junk! IslandJim

I think different people have different needs and tastes for fishing kayaks - compromises among comfort, stability, weight, speed, etc.
Like IslandJim, I like the pescardor 12. Academy actually is discounting their Magellen 12 which uses the same mold as the older pescardor 12. And it's selling for about 250$ new.
Craigslist or texaskayakfisherman's classified have many really nice used kayaks for sale, such as wilderness tarpon 140, 160 etc.
Some are with paddle, rudder, cart, fish finder and are selling in the range of 600$.
The age is usually not a problem as long as the owner(s) kept the kayaks in doors. I got one of mine from craigslist and is 17 years old but it's like new!
There was even an ocean trident on TFF classified a while back, selling for 900$, fully rigged, with a side imaging fishfinder. If I had the funds and space I would go for that. All the accessories are already worth 600$. Buying used is my way to go.

Go to Youtube and check out the Tamarack kayak made by Lifetime.
Yes, it's a $200 kayak, and some have paid way less finding it on sale at Walmart, but check out the reviews, and how guys are modifying it by adding a stadium seat that fits perfectly to the seat tank well.
There are tons of videos on it comparing it to more expensive kayaks, so you might look at that one before you pull the trigger on one that is overpriced.
I've got a 10' mainstream kayak that I paid $100 for years ago and rigged with anchor trolley and rod holder, and I originally bought it for my grand daughter but now she's grown and I use it now and then for pond fishing because it's light and handles easily.

I almost recommended a Lifetime kayak.
My first kayak was a Lifetime Manta 3 person tandem. Used to take my girls out on the kayak with me when they were little.
Highest weight capacity I could find for under $300 (back in 2012 when Sports Authority was clearing out inventory). Still use it on occasion--It's my guest kayak.

The Tamarack is a better platform for solo fishing--paddles and tracks better/catches less wind.

Dicks has a big sale memorial day. Can get quite a good price on their kayaks.
My son has an 8 foot lifetime and my daughter an 8 foot pelican kayak.
Both paid a little over $100 for their kayaks.
My son is on his 3rd season and uses it a couple times a week. He is 6'4 so holds a good size person
Both will get you on the water and your guests will have fun fishing from them.
Might want to go with something a little bigger on the pelican so stay in weight limit.
You will get sore from being in these for a while and not a lot of room.
Also do not have many features and no track for accessories.
They are slow in the water but for the price and ability to get on the water inexpensively they are a good deal.

Thanks for all info and suggestions guys. I looked at a ton of new and used boats, watched countless video reviews on YouTube, talked to alot of people with the boats I was interested in. I didn't find a used boat I was really happy with that was close enough to make it worth the price. Looked at alot of value kayaks and felt like I wouldn't be happy going backwards in quality or performance. I also didn't want to drop Hobie type money yet, and I car top my kayak so weight was a big factor as well. I decided to go see the guys who sold me my Kilroy, and this Cuda 12 followed me home. This boat apparently has the same hull as my Kilroy so I will be comfortable in it immediately I hope. Wanted to have a kayak that had alot of open room, storage, rigging options, but was still stable, fast, and tracked well. Excited to get it on the water and slime it up. Also got this boat on closeout, 2017 model, brand new about $400 less than retail I believe. See y'all out there on the water.
