And paths of hydrilla everywhere! Duck blinds everywhere and tall trees, it was like a jungle back then! But man you could catch em back there. I still remember a 60+ fish morning before lunch dragging lizards thru the grass. Then a juicy cheesebuger and home cut fries at Rainswood!!!!!!
I miss those days!

Remember the winding route into the back of Wolf Gig'EM? That was a fun ride with lots of extreme turns. Fall fishing as the leaves on the flooded oaks and sweetgums turned was a beautiful experience. A lot of us carried pole saws and chain saws to cut lanes into the back of creeks.

Yes I remember it well Chris, the first left turn you had to make on pad was a thriller but once you got back there it was good fishing. My partner and I won a boat fishing in Wolf and I made a sizeable chunk fishing big bass tournaments back there. I never cut any trees but I've had a few fall in my boat, lol. That area above the 154 bridge was the hardest to traverse and now I see boats side by side headed up to Glade from the 154 ramp. If they knew what that area looked like 30 years ago they wouldn't try it. Wish I'd have had a good camera back then and took pictures to show what parts of the lake looked like back then.

Sinkey I'm sure you saw this, at the mouth of Little Caney the point on the north side that was known affectionately as bird $hit point you could find hydrilla in 20ft of water. Many of the original brood ponds were surrounded by hydrilla. The area known as chicken ridge was covered in hydrilla. I've seen and caught 4-5lb. bass schooling in the mouth of Williams. All gone now but it was fun while it lasted.

Man, they used to school like crazy in the mouth of Williams! Green point on the west side had hydrilla out to about 18 feet, too.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it.

When the dam on Lake Fork was just completed around 1980, my day had an airplane and we flew all over the "future" Lake Fork, taking about 8-10 rolls of 35mm pictures. The plan was to to record everything that was about to be flooded, so we'd know where to find different features, flooded building, roadbeds, ponds, underwater bridges, etc.

Are the boat lanes on the Smart Strike card, and other modern cards like Navionics, accurate?

Ive been running the lake a long time and the lanes are pretty accurate. But.........I have noticed a lot of buoys have drifted. But still no biggie. You can still run main runs with no problems.
