Finished the metal roof today leaving me tomorrow morning to trim some edges where it didn't quite line up like I wanted it to. I would of rather been with Bruce as he was out chasing those big girls as they prepare to move up to spawn.

Do you think the single 2x6 will support the roof without sagging?

Very nice work! Man, that is really cool how the roof of the porch sits under the natural overhang of the house. I was wondering how you would tie it in. So the roof then is pitched and no worries of leaks between it and the house. I gotta hand it to carpenters how they figure this stuff out!

There is no weight to support, just perlins and metal roofing.
Its pouring down rain now and no leaks.
Now i need to find a small cast iron pot belly stove of some kind for siting out in the fall and winter.

And you need to invite your bluegrass friends and get some pickin' going on out there.

I asked the same question to my lumber man at DeFord's and his response was with only spanning a 12 ft opening and only putting pine rafters and purlins with a metal roof should be adequate. I always ask because I never want to under build a structure. If we were decking it then installing shingles, then yes I would have went with a 2x8 or even a 2x10, maybe even put headers on both sides of the post.

Bruce it was a pleasure working on your home. What a killer view you have and I look forward to figuring something out for a carport for your truck and boat but mainly for Becky's car.
