I'm thinking of taking my Grandkids out to enjoy some of the fun of the spring sandy run. Can anyone suggest where to launch , navigable water for my 20 ft center console and a general idea of the best time to get in on the action. I know its is starting (early stages of spawn ) here in the DFW area. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

Running up north stick to the main river channel. LCRA has the channel marked going through the forest pretty good. This time of year the north part of the lake is a freaking mess and tons of idiots. What many don't know is mid lake down is still a bunch of untouched fish. I haven't fished the north end this time of yr in years. Have no desire to deal with all the pot licking idiots.
As far as best time...for the river run still about 2-3 weeks out is my guess. Fish are staging at the mouth and stacked thick from what my guide buddies told me. As for the best time to fish Buchanan I love Oct and Nov. For just overall good time and numbers June. Bait is easy to catch, weather is usually nice. When the shad are running the bank the early top water can be phenomenal. Catch a net full of shad and dump them in a bucket. when they start to stress out start throwing them around the boat. The fish will start blowing up on the stressed shad. Clear Tiny torpedo will clean house. Also its a great time to run planer boards shallow. Stay 10ft or less close to the bank. .

BrandoA, Great report.. I have fished this lake since early 80's.. You are spot on.. Mid lake is great.. They spawn on the sandy shores and seem to be better quality..

Fish are moving into the rivers and getting ready to spawn. Quite a few limits caught this weekend at the lower end of Sulphur Springs. It will be getting better but the guys and gals that are catching seem to be pretty happy with their success.
