Cathy is packing up her rental getting ready to return to Orlando. The last thing she asked if I had any chow-chow. That was our traditional way to eat black-eyed peas when she was growing up. Now I simply drain a can, add chopped onions, cilantro, and salsa. It's my way of making Texas Caviar.

just like beans. saute onions and some bell pepper in bacon grease, then add to the boiling peas with salt pork. i like the chow-chow idea. will have to make some up and try it.

Chow chow is a must in black eyes peas and pinto beans

We don� eat a lot of Black Eye peas but really like an old type cream pea.
This might work with them also.
2 piece bacon
2 chicken bullion cubes - herbs and spices type
1 teaspoon of celery salt
Black pepper to taste

Can of Rotel, garlic powder , seasoned salt, onion, salt pork.

Chow chow is made from shredded cabbage.

My chow chow is a green tomato relish. I use green tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and jalape�os in there.

That�s the good stuff Bill. I just can�t get green tomatoes.

My mother always used green tomatoes in her chow chow. Never heard of using cabbage.

Oh yeah, shredded and chopped cabbage with onions makes dandy chow chow. My granny made it to go with pinto beans.

I fry 5 or 6 slices of bacon and set aside and chop after cooling. The I chop up onion and seeded jalapenos and saute in the bacon grease. I add everything to 2 cans of Trappey Blackeyed peas with jalapenos and simmer for about 30 minutes and then you have greatness.

can you buy chow chow in Kroger,WalMart,Sams?

Walmart has Mrs Renfros cabbage chow chow. Hot and mild. It�s good on pintos.
