I have been looking for a good recipe online. There is the Japanese base line homemade sauce and other recipes include various ingredients. Have you made your own? If so, do you mind sharing your recipe/s ?

There used to be a guy on here that put out pictures of some amazing Oriental food. Don't remember his name, but he'd probably know. Otherwise you are barking up the wrong tree here. Most of us have the idea Chinese food is a box of frozen La Choy egg rolls. You can get all the help you want with BBQ sauce, though!

Combine 1 cup water, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, ginger, and garlic powder in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until nearly heated through, about 1 minute. Mix cornstarch and 1/4 cold water together in a cup; stir until dissolved. Add to the saucepan. Cook and stir sauce until thickened, 5 to 7 minutes.

I have always used pineapple juice and soy. Add the spices you like ginger, garlic etc and boil and tightened up with cornstarch and water.

I've been making this recipe, which came from a Japanese woman, for years and can't remember the last time I used store bought Teriyaki. 2/3 cup Mirin(Japanese sweet rice wine), 1 cup soy sauce, 3 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1/3 cup white or brown sugar or combo, 7 cloves garlic minced, 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger, dash red pepper flakes, black pepper to taste. I go heavier on the 2 peppers because I like the heat. Bring Mirin to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer another 10 minutes. Take off heat and allow to cool and steep for at least an hour. Strain through wire mesh sieve. This will just about fill a 20 ounce bottle. Optional: 2 tsp corn starch dissolved in water to make a thicker sauce.
