Went to North Bosque figured I would get on here and share since everyone is always so hush hush. We wet as far north as we could a week ago and the water temp was 65. Ended up going yesterday and the water temp is back down to 45. Didnt get any whites but caught some largemouths. Dont think the whites are quite ready yet but any week now they should be up. Saw some balls of fry along the banks.

Same experience for me on the Middle. Water temp was 56 (my body temp must have been below 40 - froze my butt off). Caught a few for a very brief period of time and then someone threw a switch. Others I spoke with on the water had the same experience. My theory is that they are feeding but for very short periods of time, and then hunkering down waiting for it to get a little warmer.

I do this every year - jump the gun wear myself out looking for fish that are just not ready to cooperate. I end of spending more time switching baits than fishing - I'll never learn!

We went to the north bosque today and no one was having any luck. We ended up catching one on a crankbait but that was all. Saw water temps from 56-61. Still not up in the river

I'm going to try again today, largely because the forecast is [censored] for the rest of the week until the weekend. I fish the Middle primarily since I live in McGregor. Those of you that fish the North, are you trolling? If so, are you mostly upriver from the bridge or on the lake side of the bridge.

I'll let you know what I find today.
Thanks

We tried both north of the bridge and also on the lake side of the bridge. We tried trolling as well as just slow reeling and still didnt have any luck

I fished passed Eichelberger bridge and down pass 184 bridge yesterday. The water is still 51 to 53 but it is clean. No I did not get a bite. We need a week of sun shine not wind and rain.

I think we are finally on the beginning of the run. Went out yesterday morning and afternoon. On the Middle, water temps were between 53 and 56, depending on the time of day. Caught four in the morning and five more in the later afternoon. A couple of folks around me were catching as well. Except for one 16 inch hybrid, all my fish were smallish whites (males I'm guessing) in the 10 to 11 inch range. Enough to be fun but not enough to clean for me - they are back in the water. I trolled with a rapala mostly. The bite was very light, almost subtle like a crappie. When I had my rod in the holder I missed three fish - not able to set the hook. When I put my beer down and held the rod I only missed one. Putting my beer down is not a sustainable fishing method so I hope they get more aggressive soon.

Everything I caught was near the bottom. As you guys probably know, the Middle ranges from 7 to 20 feet deep. I caught fish from McLennan Crossing to well past the Middle/South split, almost to the first sharp turn heading back to the lake.
Heading back out today.

Well, tried hard Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, and Monday morning. Caught 8 keepers on Sunday and four keepers on Monday. Water was still 52-56 degrees. I think I threw my entire tackle box at them with no clear winner. I have even tried my fly rod with sinking line to get as close to the bottom as possible. The high point was catching a very nice hybrid on very light tackle. The Middle Bosque version of deep sea fishing I guess.

I was going to go again today but decided to play golf instead. I be back out there tomorrow and Thursday morning trying to get a few before it gets cold again.

Went to the middle bosque today the bite was slow for most of the day everyone was catching a fish about every thirty minutes. Right at 530 it turned on just as the front was coming though we caught five in about ten mins nice sized females. Most people were using whitegrubs with ribbon tales or chrome or white rooster tails reelsed at a slow steady pace. It is def about to really turn on. We saw temps between 59-65.

Limited in 2 1/2! What were they hitting?

Had a little luck on the Middle Wednesday morning. Water temperature got up to 58 and the Whites started moving a little anyway. Caught 9 in about an hour and saw a couple of other guys catch about 20 between them. Just slow trolling with chartreuse jigs between the Middle/South split and the old bridge pilings. Also went all the way up to the golf course and saw fish moving there as well. Water is crystal clear and could see the bottom at 9+ feet. Might try my fly rod up there next week after the cold snap. There is an outside chance I will put my kayak in this afternoon and try trolling some more. Depends on how willing I am to get cold. If I go, it will probably be around 2 or 3.

Jim

Was there a lot of people fishing from the bank around the bridge piles?

Well, any reports out there this week? I was thinking of heading out this Thursday or Friday, but was wondering how this cold spell was going to affect it.

try a number 2 MEPPS AGLIA WITH FRENCH BLADE!

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Spent some time on N Bosque yesterday afternoon. A couple of us collected about a dozen fish (including a few throw back males) on a slow bite. Lots of boats out. All similar reports. Not quite running hot yet. I think that little front may have slowed hem down. They should be close, but its going to be a cool wet week.

Three of us limited out with 75, yesterday. It took us from 8:30 till 2.The Middle is dead, so go North. These cold fronts have the fish running late. The majority of the fish were males with a few females. The water temp was 62. This time time last year we were wearing them out.

We tried the middle Bosque over the weekend. Tried it on Friday morning, only caught one. Should have stayed home as had to fight big waves to get back to the ramp. Tried yesterday evening and it was a bust. About a dozen boats up to the S/Middle split and no one was catching anything. Headed in about 5:30 and saw birds working just south of the Ridgewood marina, hit spotlock turned on the thumper and ended the evening with 45 on the clicker. We are catch and release. Id say give it another week or so before you try it.

So here is an update. The run is definitely in full swing! I have heard as well as seen people limiting out in the north. We went and def had to wade through small ones but still caught a bunch of keepers I think that the bite may be better in the morning vs late evening. We were catching on anything from
A swim tail grub to a double up rig to roadrunners with white working the best of all colors. Went as far north as the small rapids tonight and it was slow compared to the people who have been limiting out just a few days ago.
