Hey Ya'll,

I have a Fairly NEW Do IT MOLDS Lead Melting pot (Bought it on TW)

It worked Great the 1st few runs but not it won't pour out the Hole on the bottom consistently

Just trickles out and my Jig Heads on the Mold are not filling up but like 50%

I have tried turning up the heat almost to Max...same problem

Also-The lead seems kind of dusty like it is Crumbling after it cools in the Pot...not solid and shiney-Is this normal?

Was I supposed pour all the Lead and not let it Cool/dry in the pot?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Justin

Sounds like you're using junk lead (like tire weights).

Have you tried fluxing it? Get the lead up to temp and drop a pea sized piece of paraffin wax in it (make sure there's nothing flammable near the pot, especially right over it) and it will burn and bring the impurities to the top and you can skin them off with a spoon after it goes out. If you have some grit in the nozzle, you can turn it back and forth with a screw driver when the lead is hot and that may dislodge it. Turn the stem back and forth and lift the lever at the same time a couple times.

Hope this helps

Fluxing is important.

Your having a pouring problem. More than likely, there is debris in the way. (I know, caption obvious right... LOL)

You can stick a bent piece of wire up from the bottom and see if you can clear the passage. Be careful when you do this because you will have hot lead pouring out.

Empty the pot completely, clean it well, and start over again. I know guys that cast Bullets that empty their pots every time. I have 3 different melting posts. They all have their quirks, just like their owners... just saying.

When one of my pots starts acting up, I empty it out, let it cool off, take the outer parts off, and clean the inside of the pot with a wire brush on a drill.

Or you can pour the way John Taffen cast Bullets. He is know to use a ladle.

If you have any older hooks which can be bent without breaking, bend the hook out to make a L shape. Wearing gloves, and holding the hook with pliers, ream out the spout good. As stated, lead will poor out. You will have to do this more often as your pot gets older. Flux and clean your lead if reusing lead or dirty lead.

I always just used a bent out paper clip to clear the hole. And yes you don't want to get your fingers under it unless you want to see how hot your lead is.
